I have some queations about where the eyes go during high water. I have read & heard 2 types of answers, first I fish off on the Miss. River, which is coming up fast now.
1.) Do those fish stay near the dams and just move to shallower water out of the flow?
2.) Does the strong currents blow them out to backwater areas and down river to inside flats & flooded timber, willows?
Or does both situations exsist? My time on the river is short and I do not want to spend this time in unproductive areas. Thank You for your opinions. Golfeye

Spend your time in backwater areas preferably ones with small feeder creeks.

As the water rises it floods areas that had been dry. These areas are more likly to have fresh weed growth and critters to feed on. Head for the flooded timber also.

Hey Golfeye this is Lawrence Ecklor ;first let me put my comments in perspective. Walleyes love flow just so they have a place to get on the edge or blocked by some little rock etc., Second this isn't high water, yes it is rising steadily ,(but on pool 7-8-9-10 rising water makes most fisherman drool) , as a matter of fact it is low for this time of year. With the exception of the face of the dams in the last five days the bite has only moved a few hundred yards and off to the sides a little. The best bite a week ago was in the middle of the channel, the last two days it has been in summer like locations. They maybe there but backwater sloughs aren't producing for us. The Running sloughs(side channels) are another thing and the poster was right look for running ones that have good side cover an anywhere two moving waters meet is usually good all year round. The bite was outstanding for the last day and a half. Size has been the problem with the big one yesterday 3# and today 5#, which really are small for this time of year. Two young males dropped milk in my boat yesterday and look for this warm up to open the gates in the spawning flats. Lawrence
