I heard a rumor tonight that Devils Lake had a bad winter kill this year. I was wondering if this was true. Thanks for any information.

I live in ND and have not heard a thing about it. I highly doubt
that this has happened.

I would have to question the winterkill as well since I don't think they got a lot of snow cover this year and with the high water levels and lots of high nutrients, I would really doubt it. If I am wrong someone please correct me but the conditions would not lean toward a winter kill.

that is by far the dumbest rumor i have ever heard.devils lake has more fresh water then ever.it is over 45feet deep also.the fish are fat and healthy.the walleyes have been biting well the past few weeks.

Another ND resident here that has heard no such word about any winter kill on DL. One thought on no snow cover as mentioned above is that there was significant snow cover on all the lakes I fished this winter(central ND). There were times when even a four-wheel drive wouldn't get us on a few times. I have been worried about winter kill and did hear a rumor of a small lake giving up dead perch when holes were drilled but have not confirmed that one either. You'll read about the Devils lake fishery and know that it is healthy when the RCL comes in September.
