I couldn't let you be the only one so I sacrificed a brand new Loomis jigging rod to the fish gods over on the Detroit River! LOL
Only a week old, matched pair of WJR 741's, with Shimano reels. Vertical jigging with two rods, hook fish with left rod, set right rod down. Here KLUNK while fighting fish, look around in time to see rod start sinking into the depths! Strong impulse to go swimming was finally overcome, and reached into rod locker for backup rod. It's a good thing there were some large sporting goods stores nearby, one of them sold a new Loomis that night! LOL Oh, and thanks for your e-mail! Tight Lines

Now that is what I call "giving back to the sport". Good effort Frogman, your fishing carma will be forever strong now. Or maybe...you will just be forever paranoid! Either way, I commend anyone who provides bottom structure for walleyes. LOL

At least you didn't get a citation for putting foreign objects in the water.

Could this perhaps also be a testimony to use in opposition to the 2-rod proposal in Minnesota?

I share your pain. I too lost a rod with a 27LC reel on it this past fall, and had to overcome that same impulse to dive after it even though the water was in the low 40's. At least the rod wasn't a Loomis!

I did leave my Loomis sitting in a parking lot once. I was taking the local scout troop fishing and had to unload some of my gear to load theirs. I drove off with my Loomis and Stradic sitting on the side of the road. I called my wife two hours later when I realized what I'd done and she drove over and found it right where I left it.

It goes both ways. Take care.

And people wonder why I only use a less expensive rod when i jig. I lost a St. Croix and a Quatum EX500 to a sturgeon once. I was fishing the white bass run and was too relaxed with the rod in my hand and BOOM, she took it write out of my hand. Ran to the front of the boat for a net and stepped on my Ugly stick which snapped in half. I think the guy I was fishing with busted a nut he was laughing so hard. Chalk one up to experience? LOL

Funny how you learn from your experiences. By laying down the one rod your jig lay on the bottom. The fish picks it up and fish on. Now you know that by presenting it that way again you may get bit again!!!!!!!!!!!! Get yourself an underwater camera and go out and recover the rod and reel. That would be a nice catch!! Oh forgot there is a walleye dragging it around all over the place. "FISH ON"

I also belong to th G-Loomis give-away-club.

Fishing at Banks Lake in Washington, We finished for the day loaded the boat and headed for camp. I put my rod on the rod locker, (not in the rod locker),

Going 55 down the road, I see a car waving me to pull over. Thinking that I had a flat, I pulled over, and they said a rod flew out. Bummer!

Yep, the lessons we learn!!!

The last 4 or 5 years I've collected a couple spinning rod/reel combos while dragging bottom bouncers. Neither would have cost more that $40 or $50 brand new & retail. Cleaned both up, and have them in reserve.
The only rod/reel I've had go over the side was worth more than the two that I've snagged combined, so I'm still playin' catch-up!

Oh, how I know that urge to jump in the water...Fishing St. Joe last April,I was setting up to troll and the line from the mast to the big planer board got caught under and eyelit on my brand new rod and ever so gently lifted it out of the rod holder and it fell over board. I ran to the back of the boat and watched in horror as I saw my brand new rod with my brand new Diawa 27l and my brand new fireline with my brand new thunderstick sink in the gin clear water. Oh, how I know that urge to jump in the water! It was a terrible feeling! I felt the quickest way to get over this was to replace it as fast as I could, and I did...It helped a little.

If I had a nice pole with a shimano reel on it I would willingly let it go over board. Not to bad mouth Glomis to (very nice rods) but I thought the buts where a little to long so I looked at some STcroix and bought two new poles for the price of one Glomois.

I know this sounds like a fish story, but I have verified it. A guide on Little Bay de Noc did the same thing. Fish on, set one down, rod gone. About 5 minutes later one of his clients gets another fish. When they landed it, they noticed an extra jig in its mouth with a line on it. You guessed it. They pulled the line in and got the rod & reel back. Now they all have a great story to tell.

I should be so lucky! I will be heading back over to the Detroit River for the MWT tournament on April 21, & 22, who knows? Tight lines everyone.
