Iam new at trolling but I have fished with charters before could anyone answer some questions for me , First how long a leader should you use on dipsy divers and is florocarben a good choise for a leader . Second how far behind the downrigger ball is best to run stingers and or a harness. Any info on these methods would be helpful to me?? Thanks Scott.

Scott I run learders behind my dipseys around 6'. As far as how far behind the downrigger ball, that can vary but try around 15'-30' for starters. You may shorten to around 6' or I've gone out to 50' before. Good Luck

Scott,
Best thing you could do is get a copy of "Precision Trolling." The first 30 pages or so describe different methods of trolling. The rest of the book contains dive curves for just about every crankbait that you might use, as well as dive curves for dipsey divers, jet divers, snap weights, etc. (dive curve will tell you how much line you must put out to reach a given depth). We use 15# test Florocarbon for leaders. Seaguar or P Line are good choices. My leaders for dipseys and jet divers are typically 6'. Downrigger leads will vary from 10 - 60'.
Good Luck,
Steve
