Five friends and I will be fishing Lake Sakakawea, out of Indian Hills, starting June 10, for about one week. We have never seen this lake, much less fished it. So, we would appreciate any information about baits, tackle, etc that anyone will provide. Thanks very much. JackSalmon.

great time to fish sakakawea. probably by then it will be a bottom bouncer with spinners and crawler presentation. Also pulling cranks in 8-18' is a good producer too. Last season during that time I caught all my decent fish in 6-12' on hammered silver, gold,or copper spinners with #3 blades on crawlers. Best cranks that time of year are rap's in firetiger or perch color and thunderstick jr's in the same. Also sometimes blue/silver works great. email me for any other specifics you may need.

I think that you'll enjoy Sakakawea, especially out of Indian Hills Resort. I usually make at least two trips up there every year. Water levels are really low, the lake is going to look entirely different than last year, so I'll also have to find new spots. You'll have no problem catching walleyes in the 14-17 inch range, as they are usually active on just about any point you'll find. Bigger fish, on the other hand, tend to suspend over schools of smelt in deeper water. Long lining would work well here. Just my 2 cents, and good luck!

June is an excellent time to be in that area of the lake. As you've probably picked up from Chad66 & Ben's post above, this reservoir isn't a one depth or one bait body of water. You'll be able to catch fish on whatever presentation you prefer to use. Also a great place to experiment with methods you've been wanting to try. The Indian Hills area is also packed with Smallmouth. Enjoy!!!

You'll enjoy Indian Hills. The coyotes will serenade you to sleep. Bring tick-killing spray for your pant legs, some years they are really bad.

LOL to Phil's post!! From somebody who has been there. Also watch out for poison ivy in the campground. Our little lab puppy crawled all over it last summer, than spent the night with us in the tent..................y'all know what happened next!

As for fishin', there is not a better place on the lake to be. You will have access to a large part of the central part of the lake, from Nishu Bay (east) to Deepwater bay (north/west). Bottom bouncers and live bait will be your best bet. Also, a slip bobber and a big minnow around some of the exposed rock piles in late evening! Hopefully, there aren't any tourneys at that time, but there should be enough room for everybody. Good fishin.
