I use spoons (like small Silver streaks) quite a bit when trolling. I'm having a heck of a time trying to keep them somewhat organized because they usually end up laying all over the place. Right now their hooked into sheets of styrofoam and that works prety good but have had the trebles get into my leg when I leaned against it. I like the idea of hanging them so it's easy to grab a certain color and size but also want them to be secure. Any ideas?

Dear Don, This is like trying to jump the moon. I am contimplating a plywood board, placed in an out of the way place with small rings for the hook end and springs for the line end. Good Luck , No_Fish

I had the same problem with spoons all over the place. The solution that i came up with is to use a 1/2 gall plastic icecream container put some self adhesive velcro on the base of it and some vecro strips on the beside the seat of my boat, the tub is then stuck to the velcro and stays there. I simpy hang the spoons by the hooks inside the icecream tub and they stay there until needed it is also good for putting swivels, links and all of the other things that you lose in the course of a days fishing.

No_Fish and James/Loch Lomond,

thanks for the help. If I manage to come up with a great solution I'll let you know. But the stryofoam I'm using now is probably the tenth time I thought I had it figured out.

Take a five gallon bucket and cut thin slits all the way around the top edge. Now you can hang your spoons inside the bucket and if they were to fall they will be inside. Easy to get to and you can store your dipseys in the bucket also.Even got a handle to carry them..

LAST EDITED ON Apr-16-00 AT 09:01PM (CST)[p]What I use is a pair of 2'x3' sheets of high density sponge with a clear vinyl flap that covers the lures when not in use. The vinyl is attached a the top with velcro and on the two lower corners with a pair of velcro tabs so it doesnot fly up when the wind blows. It has 3 snaps across the top that lets me hang them on the gunnels of the boat (one per side) or in the garage/dock box when not in use.

The lures (spoons or cranks) are hooked into the sponge and hang down. Another nice thing about this system is it lets the lures drip dry rather than going back into a box wet and ready to rust. The clear plasic also lets me see the lures and easily group them by size, brand, color... Much better that trying to find a specific spoon in a 3700 box.__________

I orignally found these at a spring fishing show about 20 years ago and after 5/6 years of hard use they gave out. Could not find any replacements so I made my own. Hardest part is finding the high density sponge. This is also the critical part of the system since I have not found any other material that will hold up to the hooks over and over._________

Since I have not seen anything like these in over 10 years, I have half kicked around the idea of making some up myself to sell._______ Sorry for the formatting, but for some reason the board is not putting in paragraph breaks.

A moderate number of spoons will store nicely in a tacklebox designed for spinnerbaits.

Don, I use a Plano tackle box designed with six bait racks that stand up inside. Each rack has 11 slots and a lidlock on the top. I have tipped this box over and had it roll in the back of my truck and whenever I open it the spoons are still hooked in place. They might be slightly jumbled and twisted so they're not laying straight but it's not the nightmare you'd have without those lidlockers on the top. About 10.00 from BassProShops a couple years ago. Also store bouncers and dipsey rings in the storage area in front of the racks.

I bought a set like you are describing at the Cleveland, OH IX Center Outdoors show this spring. The brand name is "Hook-Ums" They come in two sizes. I've got the name and phone number of the guy that makes them at home. I'll post that here tomorrow. I tried them out this weekend and they worked great.

Check out www.walleyecentral.com/bbbaitbox. They not only work great for crankbaits, but many are using them for spoons, as you can fit several in one compartment.

Barb is right the B&B Bait Box like the model 696 works great for spoons. I keep about 2000 (2 thousand) of them in 3 of those boxes. Best storage I have found for the spoons and My Crankbaits too.
