Does anyone or has anyone fished western lk.michgan in or around the harbors? specifically the Milwaukee area.

Yes, I do. What would you like to know?

I'd like to fish the Milwaukee harbor area, the Summerfestarea, and the Southshore area for walleye and smallmouth.
I don't want to invest in downrigging equipment but I do use in-line boards and will try jet divers or dipseys.
My boat is a 1650 Crestliner Fishhawk with a 40 tiller. I have bow and transom mounted electrics and good locaters.
Beside the breakwalls where should I start?
Thanks

I don't know if you will catch many walleye in that area. You will probably get some smallies and maybe northerns. Look for weedbeds.
At this time of year, through mid may, you do not need downriggers to catch brown trout. Troll with inline boards and little cleos, floating rapalas, and jointed rapalas size 5, 7 and 9. Fish can be up high and in shallow water. Try outside the harbor (weather permitting) along the shore; troll so your inshore board is just outside of the second sandbar. It will be in 5-10 feet of water. This can be a deadly tactic for browns and cohos too.
Good luck.

All of the harbors seem to be producing browns and steelies right now. Look for feeder creeks and fish adjacent to the current flow. Good baits are Shadraps and DJ Thundersticks off boards. Most fish I have found have been in the top 10'. In a couple weeks, the coho should be going at Kenosha harbor and then migrating north. Best bests are to look for the boats and fish with a Dipsy and dodger/fly. Good colors for me have been Black and Purple. Good Luck!
