So, I picked up a lighted jig at the sports show this year, after hearing about all the hoop-la last year that they were being produced. They're not cheep, around $6.50 or more per jig (and 2 batteries). Was wondering if anyone has had a chance to use them yet this year, or last year. The one I got actually blinks, I suppose to save on battery life.

Any info?

I consider that product and the people who sell them to be snake oil and snake oil salesmen!! They will all be in the .99 cent bargain bin this fall.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-10-01 AT 11:23AM (CST)[p]I got a couple solid light jigs and took them to Lake of the Woods in January. Your right, with the batteries and the jig each one ran about $7 per jig.

I tied one on when we got set with great anticipation and sent it down. The light went dim the second the jig hit the water. So I pulled it back up and tightened the head as tight as I could be hand and sent it down again. Dim again. I figured it did not matter, so I hit the bottom and came up 4". I got a hit with in minutes. But so did the other lines. The shinny gold lead jigs were the stars.

When things slowed down, I pulled the lighted jig up and it was dead. The batteries were wet and there was no light. It had been used a total of 1 hour. So I took it apart and dried it out. It lighted when re-assembled and it went dark again as soon as the jig hit the water. SO I basically had a pink or yellow $7 jig.

The basic gold lead jig out fished them all that day and I have since tossed the lighted jigs out. Great idea, poor design and too expensive. IMHO. A gadget ment to catch fisherman.

As Barnum, of the Barnum and Bailey fame said, " there's a sucker born every minute". I should know, since I'm one of the biggest suckers there is when it comes to trying new fishing gimicks. I guess all fisherman, to one degree or another, have this same fault, otherwise they would never be able to charge as much as they do for fishing equipment. Oh well, it's only money and you can't take it with you, so you might as well spend it on something that you enjoy.

Remember to keep your eyes open and your feet dry.

I really don't understand the need for lighted lures for walleyes. I have had many hot nights of walleye fishing using a black jig with a black twister with little or no moonlight. Give the fish some credit, it can see and feed just fine in the dark, they do it every night.
