I've seen some of the "bad" reviews on Trilene line but I can't remember seeing anything good or bad about Stren line. Does anybody have an opinion good or bad?

I've used trilene and had a lot of memory problems. I usually use stren now(when i'm not using fireline), seems to have less memory.

Bad reviews by who? I've been using trilene for years and caught hundreds of trophy fish, from pike,Walleye's to Lake trout,Rainbows, etc.I'am very picky when it comes to line being fresh. Cut and retie after a few catches. And i have only had 1 complaint with trilene and that is there extra limp lines. For mono the XT is hard to beat,i don't use mono much now. I trophy fish alot fish 2 to 3 days a week, now i use Fireline and this is a great product,i tend to question people when they say trilene isn't very good line,i wonder how much they actually fish, how often they change or retie their lines. And how they look after their gear. There is alot of goodlines out there it really depends on how much you fish what you fish for.If you fish once in a blue moon then you won't want the expensive lines. If you ice fish give firelines micro ice line a try.FISH ON.

I have posted some bad reviews on Trilene XL and I fish more than the average Joe , I also cut and retie my line after every catch or when fishing heavy cover. XL is complete garbage and I've heard it from a lot of people who used to swear by it, myself included.
As far as stren, when I had the XL problem I switched to stren and I was very happy with it.
Since then I tried a new line (RAPALA finesse) this line is fantastic. If you used XL this is the stuff your looking for. I don't use Berkley, Stren or any other line for that matter anymore. The only thing I miss is th Fluoresent clear Blue, RAPALA doesn't make it only clear.

I thought I was going crazy!!! I've used Triline for years and never had any problems until a year or so ago. I use ultra-light gear and had so many twists and tangles i ran out of cuse words.I changed line after every-other fishing trip and still had problems. Actually went out and bought a new reel, thinking that was the problem. UNTIL-----I read someones post here about their problems with triline. I went out and bought Rapela finess, and WOW what a difference. I will never ever use Triline again.

Mickey,

I use trilene line all the time. Not XL however, only use XT and Power Strength. Never had a problem.

I used to swear by Trilene XL, and I agree with EyeLander, Rapala finesse line has been fantastic so far. It does everything you could ask of a monofilament line, and then some. I was worried about abrasion (I fish Devils Lake 95% of the time) and I have not experienced any problems so far (pitching jigs and cranks off of shore over buck-brush). The true test will come when the ice is finally off of the lake.

I've tried them all and swear by Stren MagnaThin. It's kind of hard to find, but it's worth digging for. Don't pay attention to the rated poundage, but rather buy the diameter you are used to using. It's strength to diameter ration (psi)is remarkable. I use it from 4# test up to 50 lb test for dozens of different species in both fresh and saltwater. If I'm worried about abrasion I'll just go up a size or two. Once landed a 300# sturgeon on 8#!!! using it.

I use mainly spinning set ups and have used fireline, power pro, various stren makes, and various trilene makes. Now first things first, for trolling I can't imagine anything beating fireline and power pro. The no stretch properties transmit everything. But I still use mono for jigging and casting. After going through the stren productsmy fishing partner and I were really disappointed with the way the Stren products perfromed. So naturally we made the switch to Trilene products. I used and still do use Sensi-Thin for long casting and other presentations when I need sensitivity. I used to use XL, XT, and Tournament Strength for leaders and spinners but have stopped using the XL completely and will not be purchasing any new XT. I still use Tournament Strength for leaders and will be trying it for jigging this year. If you want a replacement for XL I would suggest Sensi-Thin.

I tried sensi thin and it is definatley brittle and tangles up pretty easy, I definatley would not compare it to the old XL
(extra limp), or the RAPALA finesse .
