View Full Version : Mono with Fireline
I am using fireline for the first time this year, some posts refer to using a mono leader with Fireline, will this take away some of the sensitivity of the Fireline if you are jigging. When do you use a mono leader and when don't you. Thanks for your help.
ARE YOU SURE YOU DONT MEAN A MONO BACKING? IF YOU DONT PUT MONO ON FIRST THE LINE WILL SPIN ON THE SPOOL LIKE THE THE DRAGS NOT WORKING RIGHT IVE SEEN REELS IN FOR SERVICE WITH THIS SIMPLE PROBLEM.IVE USED FIRELINE FOR MANY YEARS AND ALWAYS HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONO PUT ON FIRST THEN TIE THE FIRE LINE TO IT AND SPOOL UP-IF YOU USE A MONO LEADER YOU WILL LOOSE THE SENSITIVITY OF THE FIRE LINE
I use mono leaders when jigging in clear water, no leader in murky water, no leader trolling. It won't reduce the sensitivity much if you keep the leader fairly short( 1-3')

If your Fireline is slipping all i do is when i first put my line on my spool,i will do it by hand a few wraps around the spool tight and the problem is gone, mono trick will work too so will a small peace of electrical tape but i find just hand wrapping it a few times does the trick. When i troll for lakers i will put on a mono leader just for a little stretch for those big hits.FISH ON

Try the new Wiplash line instead of the populer fireline. I could go on forever why the Whiplash is better but Ill make a long story short by saying that if you like Fireline you will love Whiplash.
