Is anyone out there using a Waterspike anchor and if so, does Waterspike recommend any chain attached to it? How do you guys feel about the Waterspike vs a Richter or Pro anchor? I like the fact that the Waterspike lays down very flat and does'nt take up much room.

I have used the waterspike for several years. I have found it to hold very well. However, make sure you have plenty of line out.

I recently had the same thought about the chain. Looked at their web site and their picture did not show or recommend a chain as an accessory.

I have 2 waterspikes and I am happy with them. The first I bought my own 4 ft. chain for and the other I got at Cabela's. They had a vinyl covered anchor chain that sold separately and I don't recall the cost. I thought it might be a little quieter but how long the vinyl lasts remains to be seen. When the spike is assembled it does not lay flat but by removing the pin it is easier to store. I don't remember if the spike instructions recommended using the chain or not but it seems it would lay down and 'bite' better as well as preventing the rope from being chewed up by rocks etc. Good luck. I lost the biggest Water Spike because the girlfriend runthe rope over when I was trying to unhook us in some terrible waves. I guess it works out because I found it in the first place when it was bran new. Found the new rope floating in the water and pulled it up.

I bought a new anchor, same size and identicle to the Water Spike but made by another manufacturer. It's got little feet on it so that you can stand it up in the boat, and it doesn't seem to fall over in rough conditions either. I've got a chain from hte hardware store, much cheaper than the plastic coated stuff. Works great.

Lost mine after it untied itself. caught the rope at the anchor end but was unable to get to the rope before she dropped off the lure. I put and inline bouy float on my new one. Anybody caught that spike off four mile gravel on MilleLacs yet?

Was that yours, Pro? Thanks alot! :) Just kidding, of course....the only thing I've taken off of Four Mile have been some nice eyes!

I use a 4' length of chain on my WaterSpike, particularily on the mud. I bought some vinyl coated chain in bulk at BoatUS, and paid around $1.50/foot.
