Could anyone tell me how the tournaments went last weekend? Who were the winners, how many teams and of course, how was the fishing? We couldn't make it, but when I woke up Saturday morning I didn't feel too bad - 70 mile wind gusts and cold rain. I kept thinking about all of you who fished it all day. Anybody who has any information I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Vickie

We went and checked out the weigh-in Sunday afternoon.
There were a lot of tired looking fisherman there, with
good reason. The first day I believe there were 69 boats
with 16 of them catching fish. The second day there were
63 boats with about the same 14 to 16 of them catching any
fish. Both days 9 pounds and change won. Both days 2 pounds
and change took home a check for tenth. I'm glad I was just
a spectator!

It was a tought bite and tough day. I only fished day 1, and was feeling pretty low when I came to the scales. I had 1 fish at 2.52 or 2.54 or something like that. I was surprised to see it take 11th place, 1 fish out of the money.
Yep, the fishing stunk!! But, it was a well run tourney. Thumbs up to Wayne Stensrud and the crew from the Frontenac Sportsmens Club.

JKJ, good point. the tourney was very well run. the rules meeting at the frontenac sportsmans club was an excellent location. the frontenac sportsmen were great guys. the boat check-ins, weigh-ins and etc... went very smoothly and quickly.
wayne stensrud does a great job. it is obvious that he enjoys what he is doing. thanks wayne!

Thanks for the information. Too bad the fishing wasn't better. It must have been pretty ugly out there on Saturday. Does anyone know who won?
Thanks. Vickie

Saturday was an experience. We used my partners lund 16 foot tiller figuring we would be up in the feeder creeks chasing em. Made for an interesting ride on the big water when we went lookin for fish later in the day as the creeks/ rivers were movin way to fast and far to muddy to do anything.
The only thing we could hook up on were a couple small saugers (less than 15 inches) white bass (3) drum and a big ole carp. It was aggravating!
Then they decided to open the #####, now we got to see, a dead deer, a dead dog, a condom ( the boy should be proud) and oak trees and branches by the dozens. This indeed killed any action that was happening on the dam side. By the days ends we were a couple of whipped dogs ( come to think of it we probably looked like the one in the river.
Sunday lended itself to more dead animals, hookin up dead drum by the locks and a couple more small sauger.
We were impressed with the way the gig was run and look forward to the run on Mille Lacs. Hope to see some of you there!

Thanks again for the info. We'll be down there in two weeks to fish the World Walleye tournaments.I wonder what the river will be like then? We fish both the WWA and USFA tournaments, so I'm sure I'll see you on the water some where this summer. I fish with Stan. Doesn't anyone know who took first Sat and Sun? I guess I'll just keep checking for USFA to post the results.
Happy Fishing!

RE: Wayne (tournament director) hasn't had the chance to ship the results to me. He had to drive to Detroit immediately after Red Wing. He's overnighting the package monday. They'll be posted as-soon-as I receive it.
Also, I would like to announce 3 new sponsors to USFA!! Cabela's, Irish Setter Boats and Sadler & Company Insurance!
Happy Easter,
Brian Gibson

Thanks Brian. Since Cabelas is a sponsor now, do winners qualify for their mega tournament starting in 2002? Just curious. Are you going to make it up here to MN to direct any of the tournaments?
If so, we'll see you this summer.

As it stands now, yes! USFA will qualify teams. The final details will be announced soon.
To answer your other question, I'm not scheduled to return to Minnesota this year. I wish I could go back in late August like last year - it was nice to get out of the 110 degree weather!
