Last week I went up to Trenton Mich. and watched the PWT weigh in there fish. While I was there I heard some of the Pros talking about some new spoons they have seen and some even said they had some from last year and they were extremely happy with them. It appears tha these spoons are plated in a variety of colors. Gold,Blue,Green,Copper, and some other colors.I would like to know if anyone can tell me who makes them and how to find them. It seems like a great idea. Instead of buying forty spoons painted in different colors, and not catching fish on half of the colors I bought,,all I would have to do is add tape and get the color I want.I might be quite a savings since the price of spoons keeps going up. Any information would be greatly appreciated. By the way these spoons were made of metal or brass, not plastic.

Maybe they're the stinger spoons?

Luhr-Jensen make several solid color, plated spoons called "Krocodile". I picked up a few at Cabelas last winter and will give them a try this spring. They look good, made of copper material. I am looking for spoons that won't shead their paint after being used a few times and hope these will fill the bill. They are about the same size and shape as the Stinger Scorpions.

We hammer the trout and kokanee out west with Krocodile spoons. Mine still have all their paint. I've never tried them for walleye, though. We pull them 50-100' behind downriggers. How do you fish spoons for walleye?

More than likely they were talking about the Fintail Spoons. They are a product made by the same company that makes Pa's Lures out of Ohio. They have made the colored(painted)spoons for a bit and you can see them under the "Products" section here on WalleyeCentral. What you heard about was the new process that they are plating - NOT PAINTING - blue, red, green, gold, copper and nickel spoons. They are a flutter spoon a little longer than the Michigan Stinger Scorpion and a little shorter than the Silver Streak Mini - and even the painted ones are much, much more durable. The metallic plated ones are almost "bombproof" with only toothmarks leaving scratches on the surface!

They are finishing up some final process improvements to the plating process for the red, blue, and green colors and should be out for general distribution very soon. Preliminary reports on the Fintails were that they worked very good on Lake Erie and Saginaw last year during development.

It is not a heavy casting type spoon like a Krocodile or a Kastmaster and they are designed for trolling. Stay tuned as I'm sure they will post them under the "Products" section.

Good Fishing....

There is a company called RAC spoons that is about 5 miles from the Detroit river where the PWT was last weekend that makes in my opinion the best spoons on the market. I've used them alot and never had a problem with the paint. They also have plated spoons Gold, Copper and Silver that are Walleye catching machines at times. I really haven't tried the plated ones yet, because they are new this year, but I have a great selection that I just bought and can't wait to try them. They have like 110 different colors and about 10 different sizes. I know they also make great Salmon spoons, last year in the great Salmon Hunt 1st place Salmon was caught on a RAC spoon. Try them you'll like them.

So this company makes about 110 different colors. As you know anyone who trools never has only one of any color. I usually have at least three of the colors I use the most.If I would buy 3 of each color I would have over a thousand dollars invested in spoons,Maybe you can afford this I cant, this is why I'm interested in the plated spo0ons. I can change colors on this plated spoons just by changing some tape. To me this would be a lot cheaper than buying 3 more spoons.

I saw these spoons at a distributor show earlier this year in Sandusky Ohio. Went there with a bait shop owner I know. They really look good and the colors really show up nice, but I'm sorry to say I dont remember who was showing them. All I can say they impressed the store owner I was with and he ordered quite a few of each color. When I get a chance I'll get down to his shop and ask him who makes them and let you know. I know that I cant wait to get a few of them for my own use, they really looked good.

The Krocodiles are absolutely great, surpassed only by Little Cleo's. They cast long, have good action and do not corrode or shed colors. Also, similar to the Cleo, you can control running depth easily and predictably by retrieval or trolling speed.

They are not, as the the post inquires about, able to change colors. Buy what you like and except for tree monsters and such will be around a long time.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not interested in buying more painted lures. Like everyone else when you buy a new color you never buy just one. Well we never do anyway. This is getting very expensive, the cost goes up every year and its getting where I cant afford to keep doing this. These colored plated lures sure seem to be the answer for guys like me. It's a lot cheaper to change a piece of tape then to buy more spoons. But then if the water level keeps going down and the price of fuel keeps going up I might not need any spoons, wont be able to afford to put the boat in.I'll take a look at the web site you suggested anyway. Thanks.
