I saw that Fleet Farm has the Shakespeare Tidewater linecounter reels on sale this week for $34.99. Has anybody tried these reels and how do you like them? I know that most people on this board swear by the Daiwa reels as well as some who like the Okuma reels, but for $34.99 I could buy 3 reels for little more than the price of one Daiwa SG27.

I'm using these reels with leadcore this year. So far-so good. The capacity is not the best for leadcore but would be fine for mono or braids. You must clear the counter every time or it won't always work. Given the wear and tear signs on these reels already I'm not sure they will have the life span of other linecounters. These reels aren't SG27LCs but for the money they aren't bad. Good luck.

Are you running the smaller version (D10) or the larger version(D30)? I was looking at the 30 for leadcore also.

All I can say is you get what you pay for. I have tried them all even the Cabela's. Returned them all and now own all SG27 and SG47 Daiwa's some are over 5 years old and work like new. I burned up two Cabela's in one trip to Erie.
