Recently purchased several used OR 12 sideplaners at a garage sale. They were in good condition and the price was right. The downside is, the releases were really shot. I'm looking for a source where I can purchase some OR 14 releases to replace the bad ones. Anyone out there that can help. Really appreciate it and Thanks in advance.

Off Shore has a link on the main page. Can buy them direct but is more $ than going thru a tackle shop. I ordered some thru place called Marion Manor its on Reservation and no sales tax. They will ship. 315-762-4810. However, if your release is still good except for the pad they have replacement pads that you can glue on.
Are you sure you will be satisfied with the #14 releases? I switched to the red OR 16's a bit heavier spring. 14's are ok for mono but a real hassle with any superbraid. They just came out with a new one for superlines called the snapper release.

You don't say where your located at but here in MN Gander MT., Cabelas, Fleet Farm all stock Off Shore pruducts. Remember the post on Gander Mt having them for 17$ that was pure bunk. They are 22.95$. Use the new snapper release or upgrade to the 16 for better hold, even on mono the 14's will come unhooked on a good aggressive strike or a snag at higher speeds which completely wrecks your trolling run if you have 2 lines out only. I learned to have another rod with the next color to try ready to go and quickly put it in with another board and just pick up the one ya lost on the return.
Hope this helps

I would have to agree with some of the other posts that you should upgrade to the red OR-16, or the new OR-18 releases. They give you a much better hold in most all circumstances. Sounds like you got a bargain, maybe I should hit more of these yard sales with my wife!

Now if you really want to go with the best buy some
Roach clips and put on them.
The OR-16 Releases most commonly used for Snap Weights are what I would suggest for your Planer Boards. The spring is heavier in tension and allows the pads to grip the line much better. Now the board most likely will be hard to impossible to make the releases release if you are looking to use it in that manner. However, for simply holding the line to the planer board the OR-16 is the best release to do that.
You can order then direct from OffShore Tackle at:
www.offshoretackle.com
There is a link that takes there.
If you have any problems with that, please contact me.
I work for the company that produces and holds the patents on the releases. You can contact me at: team-dunn@tir.com.
Thank you and hope I was some help,

Well I talked to the Fishing dept. manager on days at the gander MT. in Burnsville MN he told me that the stocking was not always the same depending on location but there flyers with sales in them are exactly the same in every store in the US and he said he was sure that another Gander MT. store was not selling them for cheaper unless they were going to be a dicontinued item which he said the Off Shore boards were not. Thats from the managers mouth?????????????????
I bought 2 more because they had been 25$ earlier in the year and thats what they wanted at Cabelas on Sat. so at 22$ they were a good deal anyway.
Seems like I,ve been living at GM, FF, Cabelas, and two or three marine places. What bliss when you can't get on the water.LOL

The post might have seen the ad for Dick's they had them for 17.99 sale ended today
Pitts,
Do you want me to mail you a copyof the ad so your manager can get himself up to speed?
Pitts,
My error, Ganders ads are NOT chainwide. They are specific for specific regions of the country. Check out the web page WWW.gandermountain.com The Michigan ad has Off Shore planer boards for $17.99 the Minnesota ad does not. I think you got the Nitro green crawler kit!!
Disregard the message about sending a flyer.
Again, my apologies.

Thanks

I dropped it in the mail this morning. In the meantime check out the web site www.gandermountain.com and view the current ads for each state. The Michigan ad had the Offshore boards on sale through the end of this week.

Jerkbait,
I've had such good luck with the Church clips, why don't you get a set of those (available at the Church Tackle web site) and try them out. Mine have never once, pulled loose. And I use Fireline on Lake Trout. The big ones really hit hard. Should work great if you can adapt them. I think it would just take a couple of new screws.
