metal filings on drain plug of lower unit?

While in the process of winterizing my 1996, 90 hp. merc. I noticed metal filings on the drain plug of the lower unit. Not a whole lot but still noticeable. The fluid appeared normal without appearance of water and there didn't seem to be any metal particles in it. Is this a problem or is some to be expected with normal wear?

If they are very small particles like metal flake specks in paint, this is normal. if they are large enough that you can feel them in your fingers, that is not normal. Something is out of alignment.
