View Full Version : stick bait storage
I'm fed up untangling Rapalas/ stick baits, etc. from tackle boxes. The bins are too big for one, put several in the bin and there's a tangled mess. I haven't found anything else. If someone has a solution I'd like to hear it. Thanks.
Have you tried the hook bonnets that cabelas sell?the medium size ones should cover the most common size trebles(2-6).I bought a bunch and they truly are wonderful

Tmoe.....The Tackle-Rack by Finovationz is a great crankbait box. Holds around 70 lures. I believe Cabela's carries them.

I have said it before and I will say it again..."B&B boxes are the best". I love mine! I just need a couple more...
I agree. The Best!

I'm sure all the above boxes work well but they are expensive. I have bought a cabela's magnum soft sided box. It comes with 13 plano boxes inside. You can also buy it without the boxes for around $50. I then bought hook bayonet's at Bass Pro(a lot cheaper than cabelas for some reason) and installed them and you can pile as many cranks in an individual tray in the box and no tangles. They work awesome and protect you and the hook.
One of my bass fishing buddies taught me this trick. Get a handful of small rubber bands. Thin and 1-1 1/2" in diamater. Hold the bait nose up. Hang the rubberband off the first hook (furthest away from the body). Go over the center hook so the band holds it close to the body. Fold the third hook against the body going the wrong way. As you stretch the band over the third hook give it a half twist. Now pull the band to the lip and hook it over. Your should end up with the front two hooks along the body going to the tail and the third hook going the other way. I use the plano boxes and stack Raps, Tots, Shads on top of each other. Minimal tangles. The bands are dirt cheap and can fit all sizes of baits. Easy to install and if you don't put them on the baits right after use it will not tangle with the other baits near as bad. Some days on Erie I end up with a pile of bands and drying baits. I put them on as I head in with my boy driving the boat. Try it. You'll like the results.
I agree with Lund_Dude. My B&B box holds 90 4" cranks on one
side and 90 6" cranks one the other. Completely tangle free
and costs about $100.00 I love it.

Ditto,
Buy them out so I don't buy more!
I use Plano spinnerbait boxes they work great for #11 floaters, #9 jointed and all shads, plus any other stick in that size range. Hang them from the tail hook and use every other notch on one side and the empty one on the other side. This will give you room for 11 per removeable lockable rack giving you a total of 66 per box. If you are the least bit careful they will not tangle, and have easy access and viewing. There is also room for 2 plastic boxes for swivels and snaps and stuff. Good Luck Doc
