My guess is that you lost sattelite contact for a short time as you went across the first time. I had an LMS and it did that to me all the time. Did your plot line ever pick back up?

I've also come across the same problem on long
days of trolling. I always assumed it ran out of
memory, but don't really know. To get back across a
bad stretch of water, plot a tight trail of waypoints.
(I reserve #100-#125 for this purpose) You can't
lose them and they are easily removed at the end of the day.

The plotter trail has a maximum number of points that it saves. You can adjust to plotter to record your trail at certain intervals such as every 10 seconds or every minute, etc. Adjusting to a longer interval will give you more history but the plot will not be as accurate.
Best to save points or events to make excate locations.

A plot trail is NOT a substitute for a waypoint. Go out one day and practice with your unit and create a "route". That way you never have to worry about running out of plotter memory before you head back down your electronic highway. If you get in the habit of using routes it makes even navigating in Canadian waters seem easy. It's amazing how all those islands and bays look the same...

Just do what Jeff said in answer no. 3. It will take care of your problem.
