I just purchased a 4 stroke 9.9 kicker and I need information on 2 things: 1. I will be hooking into my main engine fuel line. Do you have a recommendation on the type of "T" and anti-siphon value to install?
2. I have splash guards on my Crestliner Pro-Am and I was wondering how to modify them.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

You can use any style hose tee that you would like. The secret in this situation is to use a separate prime bulb for each motor -- AFTER -- the tee. This way, each prime bulb, with its built in check valve will isolate the other motor from the other and the possibility of back siphoning.

If the splash guards that you are talking about are made of rubber, or plastic -- the simplest way to cut them is with a sabre saw. Use a marking men to mark your opening. Take your time and cut out the perfect hole for your motor. If you don't know the exact size, start small, and gradually enlarge it so that there is just clearance for your motor to operate and turn to its extremes.

Take care

REW,
Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. I have one more question on the splash guards. I understand the need to keep the hole small but how does it work as far as tipping up the kicker? Don't you need room to reach over the motor to pull the motor up?

Thanks again for your help.

REW is correct about the dual primer bulbs, but don't bank on the anti syphon valves in them. The best is to still disconnect the fuel line from the kicker whe running the big motor at full throttle. This eliminates the possibility of drawing air through the fuel system of the kicker that can lean out the mixture of the big motor and cause burn down.

another way of hooking up the two motors is, use a three way valve made for marine applications. this way all you do is turn a lever in the direction you want fuel to go. and the third position is off for all.

I've read posts here from people having problems with their bigger motors sucking the fuel from their kickers, but I've never had that problem. I'm configured as REW recommended. When you install your "T", make sure to connect it so that the straight length connects the tank to the big motor, and that the right angle goes to the kicker. Use good bulbs and give it a try. Then, if you start to experience the problems mentioned in the above two posts, consider a switch, separate pickup, etc.

Go with the switched valve right from the start. If you lean out your big motor at WOT you can melt the top of a piston in minutes.

Sounds like you have the gas line question hammered out. My reply is for the Splash Guards. Without knowing how you have things laid out I don't know if the splash guards will remain. If you want to cut down the splash guard the best way to cut the plexiglass is to use a router in conjunction with a pattern.
