View Full Version : Western WC Get Together

Last years get together was dampened by a freak snow storm, but the 10 of us who showed up had a good time, even though the fish had a total case of lockjaw. Lets try it again! How about Glendo the first week of September? I'll set it up, you guys tell me when and where? Late summer is best to avoid tournament schedules and fall hunting seasons.

I know CWA is done in July, when does the Wyoming circuit end?

The CWA is not over in July. The fall classic is in september. The last wwc is at seminoe in july. Lets do a get together in sept. The 7th and 8th alot of us will be at the RCL at devils lake. The week previous to this will be prefishing time. How about mid sept. August might be a good choice also. Maybe not so big Mac would be a good location too. Just my 2 cents worth.

Last year we held it the first weekend in October and got hit with a freak snowstorm and major cold front. The last two weeks in September would be ideal.

EricCO
04-16-2001, 09:15 AM
After the CWA Fall Classic would be good.

Glendo or Big Mac would be fun.

Big Mac slabbing pattern would be in full force by the end of September.

I'll sure try and make it. It is kinda far ahead for forecasting but I'm pretty flexible and able to convince the wife when things like that pop up.

Neal/CO
04-16-2001, 11:07 AM
What is the date of the last CWA tournament?

Neal/CO

Water levels may again play an important part on where we decide to go this year. About a month ago the North Platte System and Wyoming on a whole looked bleak. Maybe all this snow the last month will make a difference?

Neal,
Met you up there last year in some good old wyo weather. If you want a locals opinion I think the 18 and 19 Aug would be a great date. Three reasons. One, the weather is usally good and hot,two the bite is awsome, and three the water is usally real low which means the lake isn't real crowded. As for big Mac there is hardly any water in it and there is no boat ramps in the water. The slabbing for walleye in big Mac has really dropped off in the past few years. Nothing like it was. Would be more than happy to help you out as I spend at least 3 days a week up there. Let me know if I can be of any help. Ron

I've got to admit I wimped out last year due to the forecast. But if we can do it sooner this year and get better weather I'm in.

I've got a spot in my boat for you, Neal.

Neal/CO
04-17-2001, 05:28 AM
Thanks for the info Ron. I need to ask Scott what date he wants to shoot for. I think Glendo is the best lacation, but what ever the majority wants is fine with me. I will be in North Carolina for a week the first week of September, but any other weekend works for me. Once we pick a date everyone can reserve the cabins at the marina if they so choose. Me, Dave and Art stayed there last year and they were fine.

Neal/CO
04-17-2001, 05:34 AM
If I had to drive 400 miles thru a early fall storm, i probably would of wimped out too!! That said, you will still be accessed a six shot penalty of the liquor of your choice for not showing last year. By the way Dennis your e-mail sucks. Everything I have sent you the last two weeks has bouced back.

The 18th and 19th of august sounds like a great plan. No big tourneys in august and good fishing. Lets do it. Neal let me know if I can help out with anything. I'm in Berthoud and fish Glendo alot.

The August 18th-19th time frame works best for me. I'm a single parent and my Son spends the summer in Montana with his mother. He may be back by then, but at least school will not have started.

Neal/CO
04-17-2001, 07:12 AM
Thanks for all the offers to help. As soon as we set the date I will compile the Hotel and camping info just like last year and have Scott post it. The 18-19 works for me, all you CWA guys check the schedule and tell me if that works for you. I will be in North Carolina Sept 1-8 so thats the only time period that doesn't work for me.

Trinidad Lake May 19 - 20 Bonny Reservoir June 9 - 10
Pueblo Reservoir June 23 - 24 Glendo Reservoir July 14 - 15 2001 Fall Classic at Pueblo Reservoir September 29 - 30

Looks like it will work fine Neal.

Let's also compile a smoking/non-smoking boat list! LOL

I hope I can make it this year. Family issues prevented participation last fall, but I'd like to actually meet some of the "electronic people" on this site. Aug 18-19 should work for me. Looking forward to it.

If Scott gives it the rubber stamp, then lets shoot for that day. If it snows then I give up.

Is this gathering by invite only? Is this a tournament our just a fish-n-fun weekend? I fish Glendo all the time and would love to attend either way.

Any information about it would be greatly appreciated!

EricCO

You are invited if you use Walleyecentral. Invite your friends as well. We could have a bragging rights tourney. No money except on the side.

Now that I have a great used pro-v and don't have to rely on my buddy and his boat, I also would be able to make the 18th. I was already planning on going to glendo during August.

I'll ask the queen if I can go. Couldn't do it last year due to plans, but this year it looks open for 8/18-19. Will need a seat on someones boat. Non/smoking (in response to Eric's post)

Sorry Neal, but I don't even drink pop. Can I whip you up a glass of fresh carrot juice? :)

I have been in email he11 the past two weeks. I'm in the process of relocating all my Web and mail services to my office so I can host it all myself.

My only working email address as of now is dwilliam@itsnet.com. My usual addresses will be back up soon (I hope!).

Better make a few lists to ensure compatible fishing partners:

drink/don't drink
smoke/don't smoke
flatulent/non-flatulent

EricCO
04-17-2001, 01:08 PM
Don't drink/smoke, but enjoy watching drunk or high non smokers try to tie knots with smoke in their eyes. Actually anything goes on my boat as long as you don't mess it up.

Aren't we a bunch of panty wastes worrying about whether someone smokes or doesn't like smoke or beer?

Like Scott the Golden Coyote would say, "Shut Up & Fish!".

Now that you have that out of your system do you feel better? Unless I missunderstand your post, it seems pretty caustic for what should be legitimate questions. I make the posting in good faith, then find some of my backside missing. In closing, look deep inside yourself and find out why you find it necessary to rip someone. Have a great day in the Lord.

You just don't seem to get it. Maby you should trot up the posts and attack Gunga Din, he doesn't even care for soda pop. His choice and I commend him for it. I thought that this would be a friendly get together of walleye fisherfolks, but when one has to start defending himself this early in the game....No thank you.

Neal/CO; I hope that everyone has a great gathering this year, with nice weather. Catch those eyes.

EricCO; in closing the temptation to go fangs out with you is strong, but all that would create is a round robin ripping exercise, and I will not stoop to that level. Feel free to post at least once more, to rip this post.

Tom,

Lighten up would you! A year ago when Neal was planning the last get together I had the same thoughts about some of these fellows as you did, but sorry to say you are wrong. I drove over two hours in a snow storm to get up to Glendo and what a great way to start fishing, on a cold front. Once I met all the fellows, Neal, Dave, etc. they seemed really down to earth and didn't even tease me that I had brought my wife along. If you don't like any of the following, light teasing, sitting around a campfire, listening to Neal's trout stories, eating fresh smoked fish and homemade salsa then I think that you should stay home and watch re-runs of Leave it to Beaver. What was great was putting a name to a face and meeting a bunch of people that I never thought would become friends. Thus, get together! This is what life is all about, you're not going to get along with everyone, I can tolerate Eric as long as he doesn't put his cigarette butts in my beer can. For those catching a ride on another's boat, it kind of puts you in the can't be choosey arena in terms of smoking, non-smoking, diet pop or caffeinated beverage, it's called the economy class.

Neal, start the list over, keep in mind I have my own co-pilot.

Good post Art. Everybody lighten up, and I hope you show up Tom! Art is a lucky man, his wife likes to fish almost as much as he does. Once i got over the disapointment of the small turnout last year I had a great time and met some really nice people.

Scott G. I need your stamp of approval for the Aug. 18-19 date. Once I have that we will start planning.

Eric,
I knew you were kidding around and was just putting my request down for the fun of it. I really don't smoke but due enjoy several adult beverages now and again (wife would say it was more now than again). Met you at Aurora this past winter and would be happy to ride along with you if you have a spot. Although I would have to agree with a previous post, no cigarette butts in my beer please, I due enjoy my beverages ash-free. Tom, I hope you do decide to come along, Eric's bark isn't as bad as his bite. Always enjoy meeting new fisherman who can kick back and relax and have a fun time regardless of the "bite".

Hope to make it this year.

Gentlemen;
Thank you. unfortunately one cannot see facial expressions etc. on the puter and if something is said in jest it's hard to tell. That is what it's all about, fisherfolks having a good time, and as one other poster stated putting faces to handles. I would be driving down from Lewistown MT. and as soon as the dates are firm I will have a better idea if I can make it. I will stay tuned, take care.

Last year Dave Kooser suggested that we use the Whisky Gulch campground as our official campsite and gathering place. It is perfect. It has a boat ramp and plenty of campsites and is still close to the Marina. So I suggest we use Whisky Gulch again?

Tom - I can attest that Eric is not as bad in person as his posts would suggest. He in fact a politically correct, gender sensitive, racially unbiased Human Resource trained professional. I've seen him whimper and cry about 60 mile/hour winds while sleeping in a K-Mart special tent. The crying had nothing to do with the Chipotle we had eaten a few hours before though, right Eric! Heck, he's such a nice guy, he even waded into 45 dergee, nut deep water in those 60 mile/hour winds to help guys trailer their boats after a tourney was cancelled due to the weather.

Come on down - it really is a good time to associate faces with post handles. You just have to get used to Neal yakkkkkkkinnnng about all those slimmers he catches through the Colorado ice.

Yes they do still own the Honda shop. Ed is still working the pharmacy and his wife runs the dealership. Whatta coincidence, small world is right. I don't know about the bow hunting though. The militaria in the park is a 155mm howitzer and a minuteman missle. Just like ol home week,LOL.

Friends don't let friends fish for trout", thats classic. I must admit that even after five years of intense walleye therapy and rehad, I still sneak off with my flyrod every once and awhile. But I don't inhale {I mean eat trout, ever}.

Wheels:
Here in Colorado, where the DOW insists on stocking trout in all our warm-water reservoirs, it is inevitable to catch some trout while walleye fishing. Does that disqualify us from the "purist club." Like Neal, I am an avid flyfisher for trout or anything that swims. Looks like you need some "trout therapy." A day or two on a mountain trout stream might have you singing a different tune, because of the fun fishing AND the magnificent scenery. Hope to meet you this summer.

I actually spent the early part of my life in Northwestern Wyoming (Cody) doing nothing but flyfishing mountain streams and lakes. After moving to Southeastern Wyoming where the mountain streams are over run with "Greenies" (Sorry guys, I just had to throw that in) I gave up and bought a boat. The Department of Game and Fish here also tries to shove trout down our throats by stocking every lake, creek, pond, or puddle with trout. That's actually where the great dislike for trout orginally came from. In all honesty, a fish is a fish, is a fish, is a fish. Let's just go catch'em!

By the way, am I going to be the only guy at the Western WC Get Together from Wyoming? :-)
