I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS TALKED WITH LOWRANCE LATELY ABOUT THEIR PROBLEM? HAS ANYONE SENT THEIR UNIT IN IF SO DID THEY TELL YOU WHAT WAS WRONG? HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO GET BACK?
THX FOR THE INFO.

Your post doesn't state what your problem is with the unit. When I sent mine back in for replacement the problem was that the "reader" on the unit would not line up with the contacts on the MMC, at least that's the story I received. New unit was shipped to me with the software updates, and it works extremely well! Lots of detail, and scroll speed is not a problem. Tight lines

well the problem i think a lot of people are having is that the unit loses all data when zoomed in past 4.23 miles. is that the problem you are having moose? i talked with andrew at navionics and he told me he had an email from lowrance that said something to the effect that it may be just a software upgrade. but i was thinking about all this and i remember aaron from navionics saying something about using the data provided by fishing hotspots, and that they can only duplicate these maps with the ability to zoom in just so far being dictated by how each particular lake map was produced by fishing hotspots. so i have a question for mike from fhs;what dictates what scale each map is produced at? and can we expect to see substancial upgrade to come soon on the lakes that are produced in large scale? one gentleman posted that he could only zoom in as close as 1.06 miles on one particular map, that's not very close.

I'm not sure how the process works when Navionics converts our data to their format. I can tell you we publish paper maps first and that's the data available. The type of water largely determines the scale. If it's not all that complex we can go to a larger scale, GPS grid, etc. This could mean a 10-foot or better contour interval because the water isn't structure laden.

When you see our new Rainy Lake map, that's some pretty nifty detail and the electronic version should be a good representation of it.

I can't speak for what the companies do with the data. It's totally up to them. We give them what no one else has. I guess, because this is largely all new technology, it's going to get better fairly soon because of input like yours. Many of these companies are new to fresh water and especially fishing. That means you guys and us have to guide them and we're on the right track.

Good question, thanks!

Frogman,my problem is with the hotspots map where it blanks out after a while of playing around with it.Did you have the same problem?Did you send the MMC with your unit? How long did it take to get it back?

My problem was that the reader would not see the MMC. They sent it back within 1 week. Very fast turn around.

Keep this in perspective. It's not just a problem with the mmc cards and the new 15 unit. I have a Lowrance 1600 and the same things are happening. I will lose all the maps after playing with a navionics hot map and it can occur under a variety of circumstances. Not just zooming. Changing the detail level can bring it on. At present, just turning on the navionics charting feature will drop out all mapping. This is a more global problem between the navionics charts and Lowrance units. Not just a problem with the 15 and the mmc cards.

I have a LMS 1600 with a Navionic map and not a Hot Spots map of Lake of the Woods and I don't have any problem zooming in on that map and it has excellent details. But maybe because I have to down load that map when I go up there and take out the Lowrance maps because there is only enough memorey in the unit for one or the other. Are you saying that there is a problem with the Hot Spots maps because I was thinking of buying them for my LXC-X15. The reason is I already have the Navionic map for my LMS 1600 and I thought the Hot Spots map would be cheaper and just somthing different. Please give me your thoughts.

I'm not sure how the hot spot maps differ from the e-charts and I have not used the e-charts. The only thing I know for sure is that I'm having the same problems on my 1600 that are being described occuring on the 15, in that the mapping (all the mapping, not just the hot spots map will disappear (eg. hot spots on one of the memory banks and a smart map on the other memory bank). I like the maps so far but there is obviously a software glitch somewhere between navionics and Lowrance. My concern in part is that this just doesn't get looked at as a new receiver issue alone. It's not the just the new unit, new mmc cards. There seems to be some other problem going on.

i emailed lowrance last week and i havent heard from them yet! i hope they get on this problem soon. i keep looking for a software upgrade hoping i wont have to send in my unit. as pricey as this stuff is you would think they would be in a hurry to take care of the problem.

Anxious,

As a person following this thread, and ready to purchase an x-15mt myself, it seems Lowrance hurried this unit to get it to production, and did not give it enough beta test time. It would have served them better to bring it to market 3-4 months later (than Early Jan) and have fewer problems with it.
This is affecting my decision to purchase one, if anyone from Lowrance is listening.....
