any boat and motor combo will do as long as common sence is used I have fished Georgian bay in a 12 foot boat and was quite safe .as long as one watches the weather and heads the forcast carry a battrie radio and listen for the updates. a big rig is nice but with my 12 footer and 9.9 hp. johnson I can downrig troll cast anchor and do about anything the big boats can do and a lot cheaper with the price of gas at $2.80 a US gal. I can fish 2/3 days on one 6 gal US. tank with 2 people and our fishing gear I can run in smooth water (I.E.) lite chop no breaker at about 25 to 30 mph. and troll at 1.5 to 5.0 mph. as needed. so unless you plan to fish big water all the time in rought weather a big boat is not nessary

But you still can't Blow dry your rain soaked hair in 30 seconds flat. Or, get that funny feeling from the tears that blow back from your eyes along the face and into your ears. COOL!
But yeah, you can still fish that way if you want
