View Full Version : Batteries
I am wondering what battery system would be best for my new boat. I plan to run my 24 volt Pinpoint and 24 volt transom electric on two group 27 batteries that will be independent from the starting battery. For my starting and accessory battery, would it be best to run two group 24 batteries in parallel or one group 27? Or, should I keep the accessory and starting battery seperate from each other, and just plan on charging the accessory battery once in a while? I will be running a 100 hp Yamaha 4-stroke for the main motor, my accessories will include a Pinpoint 7520 and Lowrance 1600. Any advice or help will be appreciated.

By the way, are you running a PinPoint trolling motor? If so, your 7520 will take its' power from the 24V system via the hookup to the trolling motor.

Howdy, EG
I am currently debating the same issue myself. I have 2 g27 batteries for my 24V TMs. For starting and accesories, I have decided to run 1 g27 dual purpose battery. My primary reason is weight. I run a 90 HP tiller, and really don't need (want) an extra 50 lbs for a second g24 battery. A single g27 battery runs around 59 lbs, so I figure I'm saving 41 lbs going with the single battery.
Exide Nautilus Golds (which I happen to know the specs on) spec out as follows:
NG24 - 525 MCA & 80 Amp hrs
NG27 - 670 MCA & 105 Amp hrs
If you do decide to go with a single battery, I would suggest going with a battery that has dual terminals, as the posts seem to get pretty cluttered in a hurry by the time you add the motor connection, accessories, charger leads, and a second accessory lead to a panel for your toys!
