I just signed the papers on a new Crestliner Superhawk 1700 w/115 Johnson, and I'm left with a couple of questions.

1.) With two months and 34" of ice to go before I can put my new rig in the water, can someone tell me again why global warming would be such a bad thing?

2.)I need to decide on a new bow mount trolling motor. 12V or 24V? Pros & cons please. Is the 12V Minnkota 50PD an overrated motor? How about the 24V 65PD? Would either of these provide adequate thrust for my new rig, or should I consider something else? I've flip-flopped on this issue a hundred times already, so I'm open to any suggestions. Dazzle me with your collective knowledge so I can finally make a decision. Many thanks in advance.

Cranky.....cause I can't use my new boat for two more f#@$&* months.

Both Minn Kota motors are excellent choices. The 50 will sufficently power your boat. However, the 24v will have a lot more usable power at less battery draw. Actually, the 24v 48 lb thrust motor will power your boat quite nicely in 99% of all conditions. I have one on my 19ft Alumacraft SC and it's rare that I turn it up on full power unless I'm using it to move a short distance. Tip:,The 48 lb motor comes with the cordless control peddle. It has much faster reponse and no cable to trip over. You'll like it! I've talked to Minn Kota several times about a cordless control for the 65, but not yet.
I'm a guide and my 48 has been in use for 4 years. One set of batteries a year in the control peddle, in case your interested.

Small world Cranky....I just signed the papers for a 1700 Superhawk (green) as well! I went with the 115 Evinrude FICHT, and I have exactly the same questions you do. I'm planning on going 24V on the bow, Minnkota as well, but not sure how big. Everyone I've polled so far has suggested at least 48 lbs. Like the other posts have said, it sounds like 24V is the way to go. Will have to mount a second battery under the bow pedestal, tho. And you're right....it'll be a lonnnngggg 2 months for me too!

Jim, My dealer tells me with other Superhawks on 24V they've set both batteries under the pedestal mount, ran wires through the divider with a rubber grommet. Keeps them out of the way and frees up the front hatch for some storage. That's probably the way I'll go. Thanks for the reply & enjoy the boat, I know I'm going to!
