I bought a boat in another state and have to remove the state and number license decals. I have tried GooGone and WD40 to no avail. Any suggestions that will not destroy the finish?

I tried all those last week to remove my lic numbers from an aluminum boat. The numbers kept peeling off at the edges but the meat of them sure hung on!
I eventually got a citrus based spay on remover and a plastic
2" putty knife. I had mounted them directly below an accent stripe/decal which stayed put and firmly scaped away and kept applying the adhesive remover.
It took about an hour of messing around - probably would invest in 2 of the putty knifes next time. No harm done to the boat or the finish.

Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat it up. AFter it peels off use goo gone or asolvent like oops to take off the remainig glue.
There is also a spray available to body shops - never used it.

Using a heatgun or hair dryer to remove the bulk of vinyl is good, then use cooking oil or Pam cooking spray left on a while to saturate, then after a while it should wipe off. Then use alcohol to degrease surfaces.
Goog luck!

Just removed stickers from glass boat this weekend and had some trouble with a few. I took 1 cup of warm vinegar, soaked a small sponge in it for a few minutes and then taped the sponge on the sticker and waited for a few minutes. Sticker came right off. Never been a big fan of GooGone. Good luck.:D
