View Full Version : Help Upgrading "I think, but need some advice" Lund 2150 Baron Magnum, 1950 Tyee Magnum, or NEW 2025 Pro-V Magnum IFS w. walkthrough?
Looking @ upgrading from my 97 Lund Tyee Magnum to a 2000 model. Was looking @ the 2150 Baron Magnum, can't beat the amount of storage and room. But then saw for the 1st time the 2025 Pro-V Magnum IFS. What a rig, Lots of neat extras the only concern was that the sides seemed so much loweer than the 2 tyee's. Anyone have any comments on any of the boats. I fish South Dakota alot and there can be some big rollers out there. I know alot of the pro's use the shallower but do they stay dry? How's the ride? Or should I just stick w/ what I got? Everyone says 3 years is the magical number for trading a boat. Or is glass the way to go. Please respond ASAP need to make my mind up so can get all riged up for this year. Thanks in advance.
I personally like the lower sides. I feel it is easier for casting, jigging, etc.... The 2025 should still keep you dry. Also, I am a tried and true aluminum man. Lighter and easier to work on.
The tyees are nice boats but too deep for me.

The new IFS was a result of customers in the windblown western states wanting a Pro-V boat with low sides...to control better in the wind...but with also a windshield to hide from that same cold wind.
Here in the West we get to fish walleyes, etc. for at least 9 or 10 months a year, and in some places all 12 months, on open water. However.....nobody said it was WARM !
The IFS gives a kick-butt fishing platform, but also some protection from "Mother Nature".
For a more family oriented boat.and your style of fishing requires slightly less precision boat control..Tyee or Baron will keep you comfortable and dry in the nastiest conditions!

Terry said it all (he's my hero). I have a Tyee because I have young kids and want high sides. Were it not for them I'd have a Pro-V IFS.

Gee....thanks. *blush*
Bill,
I bought a new 1850 Lund Tyee in 1996 and was pretty satisfied with it except for the high sides made it hard to fish out of.
In 1997 I traded it for a 1900 Pro-V with a Merc. 200hp. It was nice to fish out of because of the low sides but when the wind came up it was a very WET and ROUGH RIDE!! However,it had a very nice layout of the livewells and the baitwells, but poor placement for rod storage.
In 1998 I fished several PWT and NAWA tournaments as an amateur. I rode in several different brands of aluminum and glass boats. Needless to say, I traded for a glass boat.(Targa 2000 w/200 merc.optimax.) Boy, what a differrence in a softer and Dry ride!!!! I kept this boat for 2 years and traded it off for a Ranger 620 with a merc.225 optimax. The Targa was a nice boat but the Ranger 620 has much better workmanship and quality trim work, etc. Also, it has a quieter and softer ride than the Targa because of construction and extra foam they put in every nook and cranny. They have twice the storage space of the Targa and a large well positioned rod locker. It sets low in the water, tracks well, and is easy to fish out of. The only thing I don't like about it is it doesn't have a livewell/baitwell upfront.(The Ranger 619 does). Many of the 620's were used in tournaments and they think the fish get roughed up too bad by putting a livewell upfront. However, I think I will convert my insulated cooler upfront into a livewell/baitwell.
Also, the resale is very good. I think if you check around you will be surprised that you can trade for about the same money as a Lund 2025. If you want to really upgrade, I would go to a glass boat; You'll be glad you did!!!!
I also fish the S.D.lakes and river. If you want a couple of dealers that will trade reasonable, e-mail me back and I will give you there phone numbers.
Good Luck!!
