Preserving canvas

What do you guys use as a preservative on canvas boat covers? (Heavy cotton canvas, not synthetics).

Last year I think I saw a recommendation for using Thompson's Water Seal deck waterproofing. A customer rep from Thompson's answered the forum and said that product had been changed so it wasn't good for canvas anymore. They have a product designed just for canvas now.
