Thinking about buying one! Anyone got any suggestions for me, good bad or indifferent, on a mid-range 40 hp.
Hondas are great motors. I'm very happy with mine. Just change oil and go fishing. very good gas mileage. very reliable. very quiet. runs smooth. no oil smell. If you plan to back troll I'd suggest the electric start with power trim and tilt. the power trim can be used to slow your trolling speed. tilt the motor up a bit and you'll go slower both frontwards and backwards. power trim will save your prop and skeg in shallow water. without the power trim your bottom end will get beat up and scratched. good for loading off and on at shallow boat launches too. The 40hp and the 50hp are the same size, weight, dimensions etc. Go for the 50 if you can. you'll never regret getting the extra 10 hp.
