My trusty LORAN has died, & I need your help to pick a GPS unit. I fish Western Lake Erie, & occasional fly-in to Canada. Might even consider using it in the car if reasonable.
What kind(s) are good? Which ones should I avoid?
Thanks in advance.

Have to give my vote for Eagle/Lowrance. Been very happy with mine all the way around. From performance to features to user frienlyness to computer compatibility to service. Don't think you can go wrong. I prefer a mapping GPS. I like to be able to see features in relation to my course and trail. Very useful while driving.

After much research, I am waiting for the soon to be released Garmin e-Trax Vista. I was told by Garnin on 3/27/01 that it would be available in 2 - 2 1/2 weeks which should be any day now.
It has 24 Megs of memory, more memory than any other unit, I believe. Has a built in compass and altimiter. A little pricey at MSRB $375.

May I suggest a Globalmap 100.It's a hand held unit.I have mine mounted on a Ram mount right above the steering wheel in my boat.Installed a cigarette lighter plug under the dash so I can leave it on all the time. I can download any lake or area from the IMS Mapcreate that comes with it for greater detail. Futhermore, I can take it out of the boat, plug it in lighter in my truck and I'm ready to go. Great unit, you might want to try it.
