Tough Guy looking for post on walleye snagging. Did someone play naughty and get thread pulled? Tough Guy needs to come clean. I am not the snagger. Tough Guy was fishing next to someone who did and he kept it. Tough Guy told him Mr. Gamewarden would give him ticket. He told Tough Guy Mr. Gamewarden has to catch him in act of snagging. Tough Guy just wanted to know for sure. Tough Guy not a snagger. Tough Guy need ultimate challenge for fishing high, snagging no challenge, therefor no high.

tough guy

the game wardens would need to see either see the
violation take place or have a witness come forward
who saw the snagging done.

how would like to catch a fish with a wound and have
the warden ticket you for it?

welcome back again tough guy

Tough Guy,

What curt said! Here in Pennsylvania it is really a NO, NO!! Especially around tributary creeks to the Great Lakes (Erie). Wardens have been known to be in boats, on the lake, and catching snaggers with binoculars and "other" electronic measures. It is not beneath them to place a snitch in amongst the folks fishing. This is especially evident during the Steelhead runs in the Fall. And, you know something? I can't disagree with those tactics either.

The ONLY exception is for the Native Americans on their reservations (Kinzua area).

Tough Guy,

My first question of Tough Guy, where have you been? Long time no hear from. To answer your question, the places I fish in Minnesota and Canada, it is illegal to snag or foul hook a walleye. If a walleye is caught by this method, it is to be immediately released back into the water, so says the law. Unfortunatley, the person you were referring to, is a law breaker and not a very good role model for the rest of us sportsmen, especially young fishermen. It takes all kinds to make this world go around.

Remember to keep your eyes open and your feet dry.

#1 Are your ears still burning?
#2 Your story has changed, Why?
#3 This post will probably get yanked, even though valid walleye fishing question. Tough Break-Tough Guy?

JKJ, you are right. Tough Guy has changed story. Tough Guy began original story as the snagger to stir WC pot. Think maybe thats why thread disappear. Tough Guy apoligize to WC crowd for mis-information. Current post above from me is accurate. Thanks for responses. Tough Guy thinking about carrying phone to contact Mr. Gamewarden when snaggers at work. Sounds like only way to bring heat down on punks with poles. Tough Guy out.

T.G.,
About 15 years ago I was fishing for Steelhead on the Muskegeon River in Michigan. I grew up on it and the spring run was one of my favorite times. I could run up the river pull up to my spot, one of many I had and catch a fish or more. One trip out, shortly after Michigan Outdoors aired that the Muskegeon was the hottest river in the State for Steelies. I went out and so did everyone else. None the less I was fishing yarn flies for fish on the beds and casting countdowns below the beds. Other boats were watching me and my brother catch and keep and release quite a few fish. Well, we wound up keeping 4 males and zipped back to my grandparents home to start cleaning fish so we could head back home. We got unloaded and we were just starting to clean the fish. Who pulls into the drive. Our local friendly Conservation Officer. He said that he had recieved a report that someone in a green boat was snagging fish. I told him that all of the fish that we caught were caught legal. As a matter of fact a couple of the fish still have yarn flies in their mouth and that we just cut the line and retied new flies. I told him that we caught a total of 8 fish and only kept the 4 males so that the females could spawn. None the less he proceeded to inspect each fish for foul hook marks and even compaired the line on the flies to the leader line on our rods. He told us he was sorry for the inconvienance and said that he was just following up on a report, and that we did good. He could have ticketed us if one of the fish would have had foul hook marks.
Hope this helps!
Sorry for the long reply.

Last year at the Maumee saw a guy three down from me doing everything under water. He left before me when I came out he was by a warden getting a nice fine and whining about it loudly. $108.00 times 6 fish. Ouch!! I overheard the warden say just because you do everything under water doesn't mean we can't give you a ticket. We aren't stupid! You take a hook or pocket knife and put wounds all over to hide the fact you were snagging. You protest anymore and we will take your gear also. He shut right up. You do anything like that and they'll catch you. A friend saw someone trying to snag steelhead in a local river. They called the dnr. They showed up at the dock and could only scare the p##p out of these two because they didn't witness it. My friend had his video cam with though. None of the video caught him actually bringing it in. So nothing could be done. I think the scare is as good as a ticket sometimes. CW
