Just got stuck working by Syracuse New York for what looks like most of the summer...What is the fishing like out here? Is it worth pulling out the boat? Where is a good site to get some info? Although I will eventually figure this puzzel out through trial and error any help would be appreceated...

Here are a few sites that will help you. These are for Oneida Lake which is about 20 min. north of Syracuse.

www.fish4walleye.com
Lake Ontario about 50+ miles north here is a link to some walleyes they have www.billsaiffoutdoors.com/saiff/walleyepage.htm
Here's the link for the state DEC www.dec.state.ny.us/index.html
I would think you may want to bring that boat. Hope this helps.

As mentioned both Oneida and Lk Ontario are good. Ontario fish can be hard to locate but holds some real hogs. If you get on to some of those fish you may not want to go back to Minnesota! I'll drop you an email tonite when I have more time.

You could pick far worse places to be stuck for the summer! As Arrowhead mentioned, you'll be very close to Oneida Lake, which is one of New York's premier walleye fisheries. Although you won't pull many Hogs out of there, it's good for "eater" size fish. As Gilligan stated (although he's from PA, so I don't know if I'd trust him), L. Ontario produces some real Pigs, but it's a tough lake to learn. You might get a thrill out of hooking into a 30+ lb. King though! They're fun on walleye equipment..at least for a few minutes! Feel free to e-mail me as well if you have any questions! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Fool,
I too fish Onieda lake and live right in Syracuse( Liverpool area) These guys summed it up pretty good. If your going to be here most of the summer I would defanently bring the boat. There are many other smaller lakes close by as well with decent walleye populations. Lots of panfish and smallmouth action available as well. email any time, scott_davison@suth.com. If you want let me know when you'll be here and I'll get you some timely reports on what's going on with the bite. We could also try and hook up, I'm no pro but i can usally find some biters!!
