hi need info on how, where and why to rachet down a kicker motor. I am used to kicker on a river situation so 3 footers werew the biggest waves i hit. Now I am tournament fishing I need to secure it better.
Thanks
I do have a rachet strap some where.
I use Rod Savers economy kicker motor strap. It comes with 1/4" bolts which I replace with snap hooks. This way I just loosen the ratchet assembly a small amount and drop the kicker in the water. When it's time to go, pull it up, align the strap, a quick pull on the ratchet and it's done. O'Neill Mfg makes an economy and a deluxe model. The deluxe model has a bracket to mount behind the kicker bracket to attach to. This is used with a custom bracket to support the motor. Feel free to email if you need more information.

Depends on how your motor is mounted, but I tilt the kicker up and tilt it over toward the port side of the splashwell. I put a boat seat cushion between the motor & the boat/splashwell edge. I then take a short strap with a rachet on it and hook one end on the transom eye, take the strap up over the kicker motor cowling and hook the other end to the front of the kicker motor. Crank down the rachet & it'll hold the kicker snug against the boat cushion that's pressing on the edge of the splashwell. Nothing is stressed, just tight. Works well, nothing moves or gets damaged, and it costs very little.
