WHY DO YOU GUYS PUT BEADS ON YOUR SPINNER BAITS OR WORM HARNESS'. IS IT FOR THE SOUND OR FOR THE FLASH? ANY RECOMENDATIONS FOR A GOOD SPINNER BAIT THAT I CAN MAKE AT HOME? WHAT ORDER DO I PUT THE PIECES IN? I'VE BEEN ROBBING MY DAUGHTERS TOY BRACELET MAKER KIT TO MAKE FISHING LURES. WORKS PRETTY GOOD TOO.

Hook, then bead then clevis w/ spinner. Beads for color and bulk. Try placing a float in place of some of the beads to give it more bulk and keep bait higher off of ground when turning or pausing. Use #4 - #6 blades. The more deeply cupped colorado blades will ride higher than indiana or hatchets.

Cabelas has all the goodies a guy could ever need. Try your local tackle shop too.

The bead below the clevis/spinner acts as a bearing also. Easier for the clevis/spinner to turn.

I get my faceted beads @ Walmart, lots of colors available. I like, starting from the first hook, 5 bigger (1/8"?) beads, then 2 small ones on each side of the clevis. Then 5 more big, then another clevis with 2 small on each side. Chartreuse #3 colorado blades with chartreuse beads works good for me. I like 12-18" of leader. I use #4 hooks. Lately I've gone to 2 hooks, it seemed like the 3rd hook was either sticking into the fishes forehead or getting caught in the net. Other good color for me is red beads with gold blades. Relaxing hobby till the 2 year old sees you doing it!

GO TO JOANN FABRICS OR ANY OTHER CRAFT TYPE STORES THEY HAVE QUITE A LARGE ASSORTMENT OF ALL TYPES OF BEADS. THESE ACT AS ATTRACTANTS AND SPACING TO ALLOW THE BLADES TO TURN FREELY.

If you want to run mainly, only a spinner, you can dispense with most of the beads.

Sometimes, it seems that just the flash of the spinner is enough without any additional beads.
This can be simply accomplished with the use of a single bead placed at a distance far enough from the hook to keep the spinner away from the hook.
Run the line through the bead twice, wrapping it around the bead one time. This wrap, and second loop, will keep the bead from slipping. Then, to keep the spinner from wearing on the exposed line, add one clear bead between the colored or clear bead, and the spinner.

Take care

You need to keep the blade away from the hook, as REW stated. I use a number of beads that will keep the size of blade away from hook. If I use a larger blade I use 3mm beads so it keeps the weight down. If you are fishing stained water a larger blade, usually a Colorado blade works better, because it creates more vibrations so the fish can locate it. Try this in stained water, put a small #1 blade on backwards using a QuickChange cleves before you put the larger blade on, this creates a clicking sound when the big blade spins.I have had great luck with this setup.

Why the beads? Because, once the sixties were over and I stopped wearing 'em, I had to figure out something to do with them. Peace.

Someone else has answered your questions, but a good source for buying all of your tackle components is Lakelandinc.com - their catalog quotes prices for large quantities. But they will accept small orders, you don't have to buy 500 spinner blades or 10K hooks. If the order is minimum they used to have a $2 additional fee. I found their prices better than i.e. Cabela's or Bass Pro. Good assortment, fair prices, good service, and are you sitting down, they even wrote a thank you note for giving them your business!!

Does anyone have a source for inexpensive round, not faceted, beads?
all the local craft stores (catan's, michal's,jo-anns) only carry faceted beads & the tackel catalogs seem to be pricey
I know they probably all work the same but, I just think round beads look nicer and less chinsey.
