The FXDV18 is a new model this year, filling the gap between the 17 footers and the 20 footer. The last 18 footer Fisher made was in 1997 (Hawk 181).

I have a Hawk 181 and generaly like the boat. I have had a few problems arise, but they have been taken care of by Fisher. I have just gotten mine back from the factory after the welds in the transom drain pan were pulling apart. (I am not thrilled with the method of repair-but will give it a chance).

The good news---The new hulls are constructed with more reinforcement than older versions (mine) and should hold up better in that respect.
Transoms are thicker now, through bolting of stringers to transom is now present, as well as gusseting at the keel at each "transverse stringer".

the layout in my opinion, leaves much to be desired. The largest livewell is aft, a poor location for keeping fish alive in a chop. The aft livewell is a skimpy 9 gallons--really a baitwell at best. The rod lockers are small compared to Crestliner or Lund. It just seems Fisher has not really committed to making an aluminum FISHING boat (like their glass FXDV18 which is supurb). They continue to use the traditional "fish 'n ski" layout and call it a specialized fishing boat.
My opinion in a nutshell--structurally and hull design they are good---interior appointments are their downfall as far as a fishing boat goes.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Take Care

Sorry, I was talking about the new aluminum 18 footer, and did not read carefully that you were talking about the glass boat.

The glass boat is an excellent rig , there have been many positive comments on this site.

Sorry,
Good Luck

Hi Pat

I have a 1998 fx18dv with a 1999 200 efi merc.
It's a great big water boat!
It's a dream to troll in.
Vertical jigging is a snap.
The boat drifts well, and It's FAST.

The baot will do an honest 60mph fully loaded with all your gear and two big passengers.

I've been on Saginaw bay, Erie, Lake Michigan, and Lake St. Clair with this boat, in ALL KINDS of weather, and have never felt unsafe.

If you go on water that gets rough a lot I would recomend the walk through windshield.

If you have any specific questions e-mail me at walleye fisherman@home.com

Good fishing
Keith

I recently had the opportunity to fish out of one at Erie for a day (thanks Swat1)!I was really impressed with this boat as a trolling boat ,plenty of room aft. This rig had a 200 opti on it and we were doing 62mph with a high 5 prop on it,fast enough 4 me,lol.Plenty of storage space forward and under the counsels. If u fish big water and troll alot id reccomend this boat. What i liked about this boat compared to the Rangers,Tritons, and other glass boats was the room in the back,i like 4 trolling.Of course u pay 4 it with a much smaller front deck compared to Rangers ,Tritons. But overall this rig just fits my style of fishin better.

I just fished my first tournament out of a FX DV 18 and loved it! It rides great and is fast. It is about as dry as any boat I've ever had. It has 2 good sized livewells and a baitwell. A good amount of storage up front and under the consoles.
It also comes equiped with transom saver, transom tie down straps, fire extinguisher, tandem trailer with disk brakes, Zercom indash flasher,Motorguide bowmount trolling motor, batteries and a big rod box.
Check them out at a Fisher Dealer near you.
