My neighbor/fishing partner's new motor is killing when he comes off plane, then "gooses" the throttle to avoid the wall of water coming over the transom. His mechanic has said that it's due to the way the engine is designed, and when you "goose" the throttle, the air/fuel mix is mostly air, thus the engine kills. The mechanics favorite line is "All Mercs are cold blooded" and he seems to be saying deal with it.
Anyone have this type of problem, and what it the fix?
I had 45 merc do the very same thing.Used to drive me bonkers.Until one day I noticed the primer bulb was flat just after the motor almost quit when trying to plane the boat. When I got home I took the anti-siphon gizmo out of the primer bulb.Never had another problem after that...
Do all primer bulbs have this anti-siphon gizmo and where is it located on the primer bulb?

I had a 140 evenrude on a older ranger do the same thing. It would idle and run at slower speds just fine, but once you tried to open it up it bogged down and lost plane.
The issue was that there were two separate fule filters. The one on the motor which the dealer changed was fine. The problem was with the one mounted inside the boat which he didn't know about.
