Does anyone know anything about the legal issues dealing with guiding in South Dakota, or know where I can go to find out? Due to a somewhat unstable work environment, I have found myself with a lot of 3 day weekends coming up over the summer, and I thought I might take that opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do. Is there any kind of a state license needed in SD or anything like that?

Thanks.

Try to get in touch with the glacial lakes guide's association Eyez, they can help you I think.

I do know the make it very hard to get a guide license if your not a resident!

Act quick too, I hear they are planning to limit guiding in SD & ND very soon.

If you plan to guide the Big Mo, it also requires a Coast Guard captains license, fun-fun.

So does the Red River by the way, more expense then is needed on a river like the Red. The Big Mo they enforce it strongly or another guide will rat you out if you don't have it, seen it in ND.

Thanks for the input Ed. I'm probably going to stick to the lakes between Big Stone and Thompson. I don't know most of the river well enough to take anyone out on it.

Do you know where I can contact the guide's assn? Good thing I'm a resident eh? :)
