I recently bought a used Pro V and it was equiped with a 1995 90 merc. and a 1995 6hp kicker, wich also was a merc. The kicker has some milkish looking ooze comming out of the exhaust and it's running down the back of the motor. The mechanic at the dealership where I bought the boat said that it is exhaust ooze, and not to worry about it. Does this sound right to any of you? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks-Toby

Had the same ooze coming out of my 8hp merc for years and years. Dealer told me no big deal just clean it off once in a while.

I have had 2 mercury 9.9 kickers and have never seen or heard of anything like that coming out of a motor. If you ask me it dosn't sound good, but I could be completely wrong. Sounds like lower unit grease and water mixture which is never good in the boating world. I think I'd get another opinion just to be safe.

I agree with CWS. My tournament partner has an 8hp Merc and after a day of trolling the same ooze comes out (milky brown color). It's been running that way for 3 years now. Dealer told him it wasn't a problem - something about long hours of trolling without opening it up occasionally.

Best Regards,

My old Johnson had a milky-brown ooze comming out of it too. The problem seemed to be worse when extensively trolling. This was very noticeable on the white Johnson. Dealer told me not to worry, just wipe it off once in a while. The motor was a 1990 9.9HP long shaft.

Had the same problem as the other guys with milkly brown crap coming out of exhaust outlet after running a 9.9 Johnson after I parked in garage. It was all but eliminated when I switched to synthetic oil. It did it when engine was brand new too, probably unburned oil running down internal exhaust outlets. No biggie
