im sure this has been discussed before, but i cant find it. anyway ive been using lubrimatic for awhile in my 50 2 stroke yammy and im womdering if its a wise move or not. Both are TCW 3
lubrimatic is a bit cheaper and a lot easier to get for me ( i have to drive 20 miles to a retailor that sells yamalube.) Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I would stick with Yamalube, its formulated for use in Your engine.LubeTech in Mpls(and other OEM suppliers)who manufacture most of the OEM's oil.I know for a fact they spend thousands of hours working side by side with each OEM's engineers developing and testing oil for specific use in there engines.Lubrimatic and other generic oils are just manufactured to an industry wide spec and not tested on each specific engine. When I've had to run brand X because of lack of the good stuff I found my engine to smoke much more and load up severely when trolling which ultimately carbons up everything. With todays outboards costing up to nearly $20,000 do you really want to take a chance, just to save a couple bucks!I did that in a snowmobile once and it cost me hundreds of dollars in repairs.I also run a Yamaha outboard and have used nothing but Yamalube.I troll that thing non-stop with very little smoke,no loading up and when I go to change my plugs,I end up putting the old ones back in.You've made a big investment, protect it.

I switched from Yamalube, $14.00/gallon to Injex, $6.00/gallon and have noticed no difference, I can't see paying the Yamaha price for the same product.
Good Luck

Booger Injex was the brand X I was refering to.I'm glad its worked for you.I run a Yamaha and my partner runs a Merc Opti,we have both commented on the Purple Haze left surrounding our boats by Injex(it was actually embarassing waiting in line to wiegh our fish at one tournament,we all had a good laugh). This is also the brand that burned my sled down.It did'nt blend well with the OEM oil and mothered in the oil filter.I would love to save a few bucks, but I'm sticking to what works for me.Continued good luck to you and good fishing. Most responses to this type question will say go with the manufacture's oil. I run with Lubrimatic.
I ran Lubrimatic in my 1987, 45 HP Merc for about nine years. I experienced no problems.
I have been been running Lubrimatic in my Johnson 150 for almost four years.
If you have doubts I think you will rest easier if you go with the manufacturer's brand.
Just my opinion.

Mostly I vote for the good stuff. I tried some cheap oil a few times in an old Evinrude and had fouling problems. I found when I ran Quicksilver I had much better performance. Now that I have a Yamaha, I ran Yamalube for the first five years but have run Quicksilver for the last two with no problems, because I can get it at discount stores much cheaper than the Yamalube and I still perceive it (right or wrong) as a premium oil.

The Yamalube is pretty good stuff and I know you didn't ask this. but if you really want to go with some great stuff try Amsoil. As far as were concerned it's the best stuff on the market and we've had our hands in all of them.
