I was going to order a motor for my 1700 lund pro-v, I wonder if 56" shaft is long enough, or too long. I also was advised I needed a special mounting plate for 56 of 60" shafts. Is this neccessary?

I have a boat somewhat similar to yours and went with the 60 inch shaft, not much extra and always nice to have that extra length when the wind is blowing. If you don't fish in the rollers a 56" should suit you fine.
The special cradle ($139 to $150) for the longer shafts (56 and 60") is highly recommended. I was unaware of it when I purchased mine and went ahead and got it after I realized I needed it. You can get by with out it but then everytime you move to another fishing location you must raise the motor up from its current position and this requires dangling over the bow of the boat and that is not safe in rough seas. I would highly recommend you get the extra cradle for the 56 to 60 inch shaft. Your motor will ride a lot nicer in the bracket built for it and will save you the aforementioned hassle. bw(ND)

Cabela's is (or was) having a promotion buy a Pinpoint w/ 56" or 60" shaft and get the extension bracket free. The protion was to expire 3-1 then they extended it to 4-15. Don't know if it's still going on. I got Galyan's to match it, but haven't got the motor yet.

The extension bracket is well worth the extra dollars. You can adjust it to meet the motors position if you have it fully extended in just a moment ot two. I really like the longer shaft for use in rough water and the bracket will help to protect your investment.
ENJOY YOUR PINPOINT!

I did buy the extender for the motor but did not like it. I used my big water gator mount instead of the pinpoint mount. I like the way it works. No braket arms to mess with.. Dan
I agree with Dan. The big water gator mount is the way to go.
With the extension bracket your motor sticks out in front of the bow more than a foot and is always in the way when climbing off the bow onto the dock or the trailer etc.
I personally chose the big water power gator mount. So far I love it! Auto stow and deploy from 2 switches that you can mount anywhere in the boat. Only $300 more than the long shaft extension bracket. The power mount stows very solid and flush with the bow as well. You don't have to fasten a strap over the motor when running either.
Hope this helps. Jeff

Okay, now I'm a confused. My Pinpoint should be here this week and I only want to have to install it once. In a recent post several of you discussed the new AIO mounting bracket ($70 from AIO) and the Maxxum Big Water GTR ($85 from Cabela's), and now you're talking about a Big Water Gator Mount (similar to above but elec?).
I did order the Pinpoint Extension Bracket. But do the above mounts replace the Ext. Bracket? I want a sturdy mount that retracts easily and allows the motor to be easily removed from the boat for storage/trailering. My shaft is 56". Thanks!!
Here's what worked for me. (Some of this will be clearer when you get that puppy in your hands.)
I have the 3700 - 56" in shaft.
With this longer shaft I use the extension bracket to support the motor in the "parked" position. That's all the bracket does, but it's worth it. The motor, when lifted, still extends out over your bow.
Under this I put the AIO mounting plate (use Model M92-01 -- make sure it's the new design). This allows two additional things.
Thing #1: It allows you to quickly (1 minute) remove the motor (and the extension bracket) from your boat. In my case that is important because I have a custom-fitted boat cover, and also for 'pilferage control' purposes. All that remains on the boat bow is a flat mounting plate.
Thing #2: It has a sliding feature which allows you to retract the trolling motor and extension bracket so it doesn't extend outside the profile of your hull and hit docks when docking, or trailers when trailering.
Get the net!

Great explanation. Thanks for the quick response!!
If you use the power gator mount you don't have to monkey with anything. The Motor mounts flush and stows and deploys with the flick of a switch. The motor can be easily removed from the bracket by loosening the clamp that is fastened with a Large knob. The gator mount, however remains atatched to your boat. Hope this clears up my earlier explanation. Jeff

Just getting ready to mount my Pinpoint to a BigWater Gater mount. How and where did you attach your control cables when installing your unit.

Thanks for the good information, I have the same needs as you. Where do you buy the AIO plate?

How does it stow/deploy with the flick of a switch? And how sturdy is it? And how far does it retract? I'm just trying to compare it to the new AIO, which is supposedly sturdier.
Thanks for your info.
A.I.O. Systems phone # is 1-800-235-8115
If you call them they will give you the name of the nearest dealer that has the new pinpoint mount. Not all M92-01 A.I.O. mounts are drilled for the Pinpoint so you should call them. to be sure.
I mounted the wire harness at the aft of the mount similar to where the pinpoint mount has a built in atatchment. I took two pieces of stainless spring steel about 1/2 inch wide and bent them into a "J" shape. Then I screwed them down on the rail and just snapped the wire bundle into the hook of the "J".
The stow and deploy works via a 24 volt motor. The motor drives a cam and the motor fully retracts so that nothing protrudes off the bow. If you ask me? It's the Cat's ***!
If you are interested, it's on sale in the most recent Cabelas Spring catologue for, I believe, $469. Not bad for the effort it saves in stowing. I don't know how many times I have continued trolling beyond a known fish holding spot, just because I didn't want to go to the trouble of pulling the motor up to return back upstream for another pass. Now I just hit the switch and start my big motor. 5 seconds later I'm off and running. The mount also auto deploys with the flick of a switch and locks in securely while trolling. It also stows more solidly than the pinpoint mount provided with the motor. Further more you have control of the stowing and don't have to teach your fishing buddies how its done manually.

If you get that new PinPoint trolling motor, I have a PinPoint 7500 depthfinder for sale that works great with it. Check out the classified section for details. Griz
