I was recently advised to changed the anti-siphon valve on my boat's gas tank to one made of brass. Apparently, most, if not all, boat manufacturers use aluminum anti-siphon valves because they are cheaper.

I was told that aluminum wears out and that it also is subject to more expansion and contraction that brass. Supposedly, they cost only about ten bucks and it's something cheap to do that will pay off in the long run.

Has anyone heard this or know about these things?

Jim, If you have an outboard boat a anti-siphon should not be in the system and is not required by law. The anti-siphon valve is for inboard boats. So bottom line is your outboard boat has one and you want to make it more trouble free remove it and knock out the ball and spring of buy a plane hose barb at that overpriced marine store everyone complains about. It will cost you about $1.10. Some boat companys still put them in even though they are not required and in no way better than not having one. Hope this helps Tom
