I am wondering if anybody has a suggestion on what do with my 150 Ficht Evinrude? I am getting the no oil light on (12 times over the weekend). It was happening earlier so the dealer replaced the sensor. Now he says he is going to replace the lift pump. I can't afford to be down this time of the year. I need ideas from anyone out there.
Thanks in advance
Captain

See if you have a faulty oil tank.

I'd stick with the dealer implemented program in order to make sure that OMC works with you throught the problem. If you are going to be down for a period of time ask your dealer about a loaner motor. We have 2 Optimaxes down and one guy is in my boat this week and the other guy we put a carberated 150 on his boat to get him through the week. Can't promise what your dealer can do, but I would ask. We did also have one guy with a problem that was so busy screaming and fussing that he walked out without giving us a chance to offer a solution, so try to be nice. The guy fixing it isn't the guy who built it or designed it, he's just the guy who has to clean up the mess right now.
Good Luck,
Doc

I think you should take the motor in rather than keep running it & counting how many times you see the oil light. Not trying to be a smart a$$, but around 8-9 lights ago you were on a path to a post about what to do about your blown powerhead. Oil on a 2 cycle really isn't something to 'run & see what happens'. If the head goes you can be sure OMC will know why & you'll be wonder what happened & how to pay for it. Not ripping on you, just being really honest.

I have it at a dealer. Now the problem is Evinrude has the lift pump on back order for 3 weeks. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on a lift pump for a 97' 150 Ficht Evinrude?

Make sure you have a vented oil cap, same thing happened to me & that was the problem.....simetimes its simple :-)

I assume that this has already been checked.
Have you replad the screen on the bottom of the oil tank?
This very fine mesh screen can get clogged rather easily - if there is any kind of contimanation in your oil.

This would be a very easy fix.
Are you sure that you also have a good oil line, good squeeze bulb, and good check valve in the line?

Any of these problems would cause your problem, and the fix is trivial.

Good luck -- and may the oil keep flowing.

p.s.
I was just out this weekend -- and a fellow went out for the first and last day on his motor with a merc oil injected. A mile off shore -- the no oil light came on and alarm sounded. Because he was in heavy wind and waves and in a near life threatining situation -- he milked the motor back in. He would run it until the motor seized -- let it cool and come some more. My guess is that he will be looking at a new power head before he is done. He had never had a problem with the motor prior to this.

Good luck

I always carry an extra container of oil in the boat to add to the gas tank as a premix just in case of such an emergency.

Captain, Don't pre mix it won't protect your motor in a no oil sutuation. It is not a resivoir since a resivoir will give a LOW oil lite. I am sure that it is not the vent in the cap. If the dealer sees the fault code on his computer for no oil then is is not getting oil. If you get a no oil warning and he has no fault code than your system check tach with the idiot lites may be bad. It is much more common to have a bad tach than a bad oil pump. Good luck Tom

Why do you say "don't premix - it won't protect your motor". IF YOU PREMIX (ADD OIL AT 50:1 TO YOUR GAS IN THE TANK)YOUR ENGINE GETS THE OIL THAT IT NEEDS. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU ADDING THE OIL OR THE ENGINE ADDING THE OIL. THE RESULTS ARE THE SAME OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE. MAYBE THE ALARMS WILL STILL GO OFF BUT YOU WILL KNOW THAT THE ENGINE IS PROPERLY LUBRICATED AND IS NOT GOING TO SEIZE. I REALIZE THIS IS NOT THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION BUT IT WILL SURELY WORK TILL HIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED OR IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION.

Hey Sam no reason to SHOUT ! He has a FICHT outboard. On the motor he has the crankshaft and rods and other parts on the lower end do not get a bath of gas and oil like their other 2 cycle counterparts. Oil from the resevior is pumped into the block in an oil mist and then recycled back through a return hose. Sorry if you are offended but you can cost others alot of money with advece like that. Just goes to show you that you get what you pay for on ANY website. That goes for what I say too. Keep cool Tom

I had the same problem last week with my 175 ficht. The problem was simply a bad gauge. It's the RPM gauge that has all of the light for the sensors. My dealer said it was common problem and had already replaced several of these gauges. Swapping my gauge solved my problem..
