Does anybody have an opinion on Cabelas Gore-Tex
Guidewear Raingear? Is it 100% waterproof and as good as they claim? I've had a Dritex suit for the last 9 years - finally wore it out and was thinking I should try Gore-Tex!
Thanks

I've had my gore-tex suit for about 4 years now. Not only is it rain proof, it's wind proof. It cuts the wind like nothing else. I won't have a different type of suit.

If you hunt, you may want to check out their waterfowl clothing. The fish won't mind camo, but geese don't like red. Cabela's does havbe waterfowl clothing that's very similar to their top-of-the-line fishing clothing.

LENNY BEFORE YOU BUY TAKE A LOOK AT THE COLUMBIA LINE OF RAIN GEAR. I BOUGHT THERE SUIT THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE GUIDE WEAR. THE ONLY THING THAT TURNED ME TO THE COLUMBIA INSTEAD OF THE GUIDE IS GOR-TEX ONLY WARRINTIES FOR ONE YEAR COLUMBIA IS LIFE TIME. WIND PROOF, WATER PROOF, AND SNOW PROOF(WORE IT THIS YEAR FOR MY FIRST TIME SKIING) NEEDLESS TO SAY I FELL A FEW TIMES.

I bought a pair of Gortex hunting boots about 5 - 6 years ago and my feet have never been happier! Bone dry and warm! I'm sold on Gortex.

Howdy,
I have never been more comfortable in a total downpour. It is what everyone claims. I also have Rocky GoreTex Bearclaws boots & GoreTex gloves. I don't get wet or cold anymore. :-)
Good fishin.....Drift'r
I think you might have that reversed. Gore-tex is guaranteed to be water proof, wind proof, and breathable for life. Columbia, which is omni-tech, is a spray on coating which carries a two year warranty. Columbia is cheaper and will not last as long as Gore-tex, because Gore-tex is a laminated membrane with a nylon shell over it for protection.
Read the tags... and go to their web sites
I've had my Guidewear for about 6 years now. I fish well over a hundred days a year and the stuff is great - no complaints. I would recommend getting the un-insulated version. You can layer underneath for cold weather fishing.
Best Regards,
FJH
Cabela's Guidewear is one of the best (if not THE best) purchases I have ever made for fishing gear. It does cost a little more but it's well worth it. Completely waterproof and windproof which is worth it's weight in gold some days. Cabela's customer service and return policy is outstanding as well. You won't be sorry you bought it.

I've had my guidewear for several years. I wear it all the time to cut the wind, keep me dry, and as a layer for warmth. If I needed to replace it, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. Even if it cost twice as much!!

Ps. Buy the insulated, it's not too warm in the summer and its great in the spring and fall.

Buy the Cabelas Gore-Tex. Using it for years. Wouldn't leave home without it. Nothing, I mean nothing, worse than being cold and wet.
Be safe,

The guide wear is by far the best suit I have ever worn.I fish about 100 days a year both on the ice and open water and have never been let down. The tag does not lie when it says"EXTREME WET WEATHER GEAR".When lake Winnebago gets a good chop going all I do is put the suit on and twist the throttle to get back to shore.

The fish won't mind the camo, but you would be awfully hard to see if you fell overboard in a storm. I love my guidewear, but I really wanted a hot color like blaze orange or yellow. I also wear a loud life jacket for the same reason. Just food for thought.
