I just purchased a 7520 Sonar unit and with it came a transducer. My question is:Does the transducer that came with the unit in the same box also serve as a Temp/speed transducer or does this transducer only read depth, etc., and thus do I need to order the speed/temp. transducer seperately? Thanx.

If it has speed it will have the speed wheel on it.
I have a TMTD02 transducer with temp and speed on it. One big honkin transducer.
It came with a 7420 I ordered.
Call 1-800-474-7550 and ask them.
As Eric says, the transducer must have a speed wheel (looks like a little paddle wheel) to read speed (and temp).
If it doesn't have that little paddle wheel, then it reads depth only. In that case you have two choices.
Choice #1 - Get the dealer (or PinPoint) to trade you for the combination transducer.
Choice #2 - Purchase the speed/temp pickup unit separately (you'll also need a "Y" cable).

Thanks for your responses so far guys. The unit has just the standard transducer, therefore when I get the speed/temp. transducer I have 2 options.
1.Replace the standard transducer with the speed/temp. transducer Or
2.Get the Y-cable and install the speed/temp transducer possibly on the opposite side of the boat so as to view both sides of the boat.
Is this correct????????????? Thanx again.

nope. A transducer is the only thing that will send and receive the "echo". The speed and temp sensor will only read the speed and temp.

Not quite--Hans left out option 3, which is buy a new transducer with integrated speed/temp (that's what I wound up doing).
The speed/temp module Hans mentioned that requires the Y cable does not have the transducer. That's why you need the Y cable--to connect the transducer and the speed/temp unit. Personally, I'd rather have them together in one unit. If it's a new purchase, Pinpoint will trade it out. If you bought it used (even if the transducer is new), you'll have to buy one.
Good luck.
>Not quite--Hans left out option 3,
Your choice 3 is the same as my choice 1.
