Come on Jenn, don't be so tight lipped... tell me what topics were covered... what things you learned at the seminars... and why I should go next year rather than just learning on the water. Steve (IA)

They cover ALOT.!!!! From plugs to you name it. It
was interesting to watch the pros really talk up
one thing while the other shot it down. This showed me that nothing was pre planned. this was my first time there and i will be back. I'll go into more detail later.

Hey Steve!
Great question...with open water and tourneys coming up I fully understand how it could be a tough call as to whether to go spend time on the water or whether to go pay to see some top anglers in a seminar. I opted for the seminar and I made the right choice.
Since you asked Steve, the guys that were there are as follows. Bob Propst Sr. talked about the history of walleye fishing and what was called legendary guide secrets. I learned too much to tell you here Steve. Ted Takasaki interactively presented how to find walleyes fast when going to new water or going to any body of water throughout the year. There were key componenets addressed in this talk along with techniques to use and maps to analyze. Tom Keenan gave at least a 2 hour seminar in 1 hour (lol Tom) and gave huge amounts of info on spinner rigs. Sam Anderson discussed varieties of live bait rigging. Mike Norris discussed trolling crankbaits.
So Steve....The format of the seminar was not lecture; but rather was presentations with questions throughout, along with examples there for us to see and work with if we chose to do so. At any time through the 8 hours you could talk with any of the anglers on any questions you had. There were great discounts on gear, and huge numbers of raffle prizes.
I know I can take the tactics I learned and apply them to the bodies of water I'll be fishing. I agree time on the water is a key component in increasing angling abilities but I also think that when there are opportunities to work with people like mentioned here, it is great to add those ideas to one's arsenal. If you don't take what you learned at a seminar and go work with it and modify it or try it to get it to work for you, then yes I agree it is not too valuable; but if you take that new knowledege and go apply it now....it helps an angler grow. The key though Steve is that we could ask whatever questions we wanted...so you could go there with whatever goals you had for yourself and achieve those goals if you wanted to.
Also, it was great for networking with anglers from different states since there were so many people there. From the pros to the anglers attending the seminar, I found they were all open and helpful in sharing ideas...with the common goal of helping other anglers become better anglers by learning new areas and/or techniques.
Hope that helps Steve...
~Jenn
p.s.....ya know Todd_NE on here???? from Nebraska??? holy cow did he win the stuff! Did ya try out your new Beckman Net yet Todd?????? :-)

A big thank you to everyone who came and wanted to learn. The key to success is knowledge and learning has been my top priority over my fishing career.

I am glad that everyone enjoyed it. It sure takes a lot of hard work on the part of a lot of people!

The Institute was great again this year and I enjoyed meeting Jim Stolpa, JumboJim, Jenn, Fishin Fool, etc besides the pros. I and Rhett Eckmann enjoyed it like always. Reelman couldn't make it so I was playing some tix (honestly) for him too, glad I won that net - had been holding out on a new one.

BTW - Tell Bass Pro to stock more Pinnacles in Springfield Ted, hard to buy what they don't have.... Can I buy stock in Bass Pro??? heheheheh

I thought the seminar was well run. I enjoyed meeting everyone (Todd, Rhett, Jumbo Jim, Fish n' Fool) as well as seeing a lot of local guys and gals that I always see on the water. Looking forward to it again. One question though...was it supposed to be limited to 75 people or did I mis-read something?
