Neither the dealer nor I (it's his first Smart Gauge too) can successfully get the gas gauge set correctly. The 1/4 and the 1/2 are no problem, but can't seem to get the 3/4 and full settings. Similar experience, or suggestions?

I know mine was calibrated properly on the trailer sitting level. My problem is with a 50 gal tank that runs 6ft long from front to back, the boat is very seldom sitting level in the water. Its a big tiller so with me, 150 opti digital, gas andbatteries all in the back, my gauge reads 50 gallons down to about half full. Then it starts going fast. This is the only readout of my didgital that gives me a problem. I understand that because of tank layout there is nothing that can be done to change this. I just watch the miles traveled and fill when nessesary. I've gone over 130 miles and never put more than 32 gallons of gas in. So just keep it full before use and how much I have left is never a concern. Hope this helps. I know the system pretty well so if you have any questions feel free to E-mail. Good Luck!
Just theory here no hands on,waiting for my first one. Mercury realy talks them up lets see what the real world says. calibrate boat in water. enter fuel tank capacity and save. start with empty tank press save. fill to 1/4 capacity - save, fill 1/2 - save, fill 3/4 save, fill full capacity save. that simple

That's what we did, and it worked okay on 1/4 and 1/2. At 3/4 and full, it continues to show the 1/2 reading.

Works exactly as you say on 1/4 and 1/2. On 3/4 and full, it keeps reverting to the 1/2 reading, no matter what you enter.
Check the ohms reading from your fuel sender. Is it possible that it is only working to half tank? Or it could be hanging up in the tank.

You'd think they could put two senders in these long tanks--one forward and one back--and add some intelligence to the guage so that you always get an accurate reading, no matter if the boat is level, tilting forward, or back. But then, what do you expect for $30K!
