There was a post awhile back about the zander. Some were interested in additional info. I was going to respond right away, but I wanted to check with the ND G&F for accuracy. There were 1,050 fingerlings and 150,000 fry european zander stocked into Spiritwood Lake ND in 1989. This lake was chosen because it was a "closed" basin. In the early 1990's, during the drought, the lake receeded to a 4 ft. level and was overrun with salamanders. Thousands of hours were spent test netting with no sign of any remaining zander. Since the wet years, beginning in 1997, this "closed" basin has overflowed into other waters. There were always rumors of Zander being caught from Spritwood, but a true Zander wasn't documented until June 2000. The results of further test netting of Spiritwood Lake in 2000 are unavailable.
