I am interested in hearing from owners of 2000 model ficht engines. I've read all the good and bad posts about 1997-1999 models and I am interested in hearing from 2000 model owners only--please. I am particularily interested in 200,225 and 250 HP models. I look forward to your comments

Wally:
Have a 200 hp Ficht (Y2K) on my boat. So far, so good - 30 hours and no problems. Good on gas and oil. No smoke. Starts quick and purrs throughout the rpm range. Ask me again next year.

I've got a 2000 150 and so far it has been a pleasure. After about 25 hrs, very quiet, no smoke, GREAT on gas, very smooth, good starter. johnb

I have a 150 with only 14 hrs. No proplems so far. I was going to wait for a few more hours before posting about the motor. This was the first 2000 that my dealer sold. I helped rig the motor on the boat. When we had it bolted to the transom, he started to look the motor over. He pointed out at least twenty differences between this motor and the 99's.
Hope this helps,

2000 225 Optimax
After 25 hours the water pump went out and had to use kicker to get back in.
Also if went over 5000 RPM's the motor seemed to load up with oil and kill once tried to idle it back down. It took 20 times to crank it over before the extra oil was discharged. The tech couldn't find anything wrong. He talked to Merc and they said it could be a faulty check valve of somesort. Had it replaced and has run like a top since. But took 2 months to find the problem.
Great fuel economy. Had a 150 Optimax last year with no problems until end of year. After 300 hours an injecter went out. I would consider that a good running record.
Last thought, how many of us would put up with these problems if this was our Suburban. I have heard about a lot of problems with motors in the past 2-3 years. Maybe they are putting these things on the market before they are properly tested.

I have a 2000 Ficht 200 on a Lund Pro-V 1900. Used it about 20 days so far, its great. Quieter than my 150 and it goes real fine. It runs 60 MPH quite easily. I'm happy.
