When casting cranks in rivers or lakes what do you prefer, A Spinning Rod and Reel or a Casting Rod and Reel and why?

I seem to lean toward spinning reels; just seems to work better for me. I think I have more feel useing a spinning outfit. If it's really windy I will go to a closed faced spinning reel to eliminate line tangles.
There is more to this question than you realize. Here goes.. Avoid using a baitcaster if you have to cast into the wind (BACKLASH , big time). Use baitcaster for medium and big cranks. For small or mini cranks use a spinning rod or spin caster. What I'm trying to say is....use common sense. If you don't have common sense, keep hitting your thumb with the hammer, but take notes. Be observant. Pay attention to what the other guys are doing. If you will be casting cranks with a spinning reel, try one with a trigger release. Keep in mind that the rod action and line size must match what you are doing.

When cranking a river I need all the control I can get due to the over hanging tree limbs. I prefer a spinning reel for this, I use a baitcaster for the long distance cast and pitching.
