View Full Version : GPS Question
I just bought a new X-15 without GPS. The question is how good are the new GPS with the X-15? Would I be better just buying a Global Map 1600? The reason I ask is I read a post and someone had said they purchased the X-15 with GPS and were a little disappointed because they thought it would show more detail for a CD-ROM. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I like the GPS on the X15mt and am not dissatisfied with the data from the cdrom. I wanted a GPS mainly for Erie, get home in deep fog, stay on the fish when I find them, drive right to the ramp from 12 miles out etc.
Finding the maps to be pretty accurate, on Erie it show wrecks, navigation points, major reefs etc. On inland lakes the creeks and shoreline are well drawn.
If you want depth contours, creek channels and supposedly the weedbeds and such on major lakes, you can purchase Navionics cartridges, (www.navionics.com) which are compatible with the X15. No reason to put out the money for a globalmap, considering that you already have an x15 that will do the job, and the screen is bigger. Does the Globalmap come with more detailed software that is on Mapcreate5? If so wondering if it would be compatible with the x15.
good luck

I have both the LMS 1600 and the X-15 MT and I can tell you that the 1600 in my opinion is a better unit. The 1600 is more user friendly and has alot more features. I like the fact on the 1600 that you can turn off the names and symbols of your waypoints so the screen is not clutter up with all those names. Moving waypoints to different location is another nice feature the I could name alot of other things that the X-15 lacks. In other words the X-15 needs work. Maybe Lowrance will change this with different software, let's hope so

PJM,maybe you should e-mail them and tell them what updates they should work on.I had an eagle view where you could turn off the waypoint names,I liked to see that on the x-15 also.

I have E-Mailed Lowrance about this and they said they are working on some new things. I am not saying the X-15 is a bad unit but on the other hand I was disappointed. I expected this unit to to have the same features as the 1600 and a few more, but it didn't. The unit seems to work fine but time will tell.
