I'm wondering too. I drove one a couple days ago. Sa-weet truck! That transmission brake would be great pulling a heavy boat and I could actually talk to the guy next to me. I would say it isn't much louder than my 454 at highway speed.

Go to www.maximumsled.com and click on the "GM heavy duty trucks" article. It is a very in depth report on the Duramax and includes a comparison of the three major truck players and their diesel packages over a high mileage test. The results are eye opening. I have had the opportunity to drive this vehicle over a weekend hauling my 2025 ProV and I have to tell you now that I have one on order. This engine not only has all the torque you need to get anything under motion, it has the horsepower to walk away from the Dodge and Ford at highway speeds. It is'nt even close!!

I have approx 5k trouble-free miles on mine. This is my first diesel. I read all the reports I could. I talked to everybody I could. There were some computer related glitches with the Allison, but they were rare and easily taken care of. The long term testing results were very impressive.
So far, I love the truck. Truly awesome power and pretty fair economy (17-19 mpg). I am told the power and economy will improve with age, something I am not used to with gas. As far as the noise, like I said, it's my first diesel so it's hard for me to compare. But, other diesel guys just shake their heads.
And for the "newness", heck, that's what he 100k warranty is for.
I don't miss my Suburban at all....
Go for it,
Dave

Well when I was looking for a new truck, I almost bought a new Duramax Diesel. I now wish I would have. The stock six liter gas engine has a lot of power but it does like gas. Newt time I will go diesel as I know a few guys that have them and they love them. I do however recomend going with a crew cab model. It's nice to have four full sized doors and if you have passengers in the back they have a ton of room. it's only eleven inches longer than an extended cab. Anyone looking for a crew cab shortbox gas Chevy? lol! Chris K
